You need to upgrade your TV, I believe I heard it correctly.

You need to upgrade your ears, I'm listening through £200 headphones, via an HD Recorder.

How young is your son? Its maybe not the sort of programme he should be watching anyway.

I'd say that's very presumptuous and generalizing. There's probably more truth in a statement of saying the sort of people that report TV to Ofcom etc are over sensitive!

You think so? Its been my experience that heavy swearers are simply over compensating for the lack of suitable words to carry enough strength of meaning for what they are trying to say, so they resort to generic swear words to boost poor communication ability.

Are not Ofcom there to report things to? or is reporting anything being over sensitive? in that case you are saying absolutely anything is acceptable on TV!

I think it's generally accepted that people get their facts right before reporting things, otherwise they end up looking a bit silly...

Just listened to the relevant bit on iplayer; I hear May saying 'cocking' - it's 22 minutes into the broadcast. Cocking appears to be the name of a village in Sussex, and I'm aware of the phrase 'cocking a snook' and of people cocking guns, but other than that, I'm not aware of it being a rude word in any sense.

Might be a good idea to get the facts right before you start ranting and making complaints though. Just a suggestion sir...

OP, when I watched the program on my TV I could've sworn blind that he said (text removed by MSE Forum Team) and I actually made a comment to my OH about it as we were a bit taken aback, so we re-watched it on my PC with headphones and he does actually say cocking. It didn't sound like it at the time though!
  • I've worked in Various factories, in particular some male dominated one's in Merseyside, where I have as an adult picked up some choice phrases, and I have been known to swear quite fluently. Occasionally at my kids.

But there is no need to swear on Top Gear. None.

Funny how people hear what they want to.

I heard it as cocking - it's May, he always says some variant of 'oh (text removed by MSE Forum Team). The Top Gear team are excellent at winding up people who want to be offended, long may it continue.

ITs an 'F' not a 'C' he is saying.. I will upload it somewhere. No mistake.
