Sorry, but under these circumstances you have no right to return it.

You left it to late, the circumstances for this are irrelevant, sorry.

P.s even if you did decide to follow the ridiculous advice to damage it, they would just either reject it because they know you are trying it on or have it repaired.

If it's the AM05 fan, Litlewoods website clearly states
Non returnable under our Approval Guarantee, once installed or connected. Your statutory rights are not affected. See Returns section in our Help pages for more information.
I'd be wary of buying anything with that warning.

I can't see why it's going to cost you more than £1000, using the website the most it'll cost is £736.

What is DSR? Tom I'm over 70 and would really appreciate you not using the sort of language you do (to me anyway please).

I read some reviews that said it was noisy and a couple that said they were pleased with it. I searched for other much cheaper fans on the Littlewoods site but they'd all gone. I purchased this one at over £400 but on a buy now pay later because 1) I don't have the ready cash for a "quiet" fan and couldn't sleepin this heat and 2) Because I've bought another quite expensive item this way and had no problem with the repayments (I don't order willy nilly from this catalogue -- just a couple of items, this being one) and 3) I was told by the order line I could return it within the guaranteed period if not satisfied. So I overlooked the "noisy reviews" believing if it was indeed that bad I could return it.

I ordered it on July 17th, tried it out on the same night, packaged it up the following day then had to go to Bath to my daughter's whose own baby had just been born sleeping. So the next few days were a horrendous total blur. I've only just returned and saw the box still in the hall.

I phoned Littlewoods this morning and was told what I have already written.

I'm not going to pull wires out. I'm just shocked that just because I plugged it in it's now not returnable.

Thank you all of you who replied sensibly and helpfully.

    Sarah.

    DSR = distance selling regulations.

This gives you 7 WORKING days from when you receive a product to reject it and return it for a free refund. (with a few exceptions)

So unless you notified them within 7 working days of it arriving, then unfortunately you are too late to return it, so your only option is to keep it (earplugs??) or sell it on.

Perhaps write a nice letter to Littlewoods explaining the situation, and see if they will do something.

Deepest sympathy for the loss of your daughters baby. I can understand why you weren't thinking about a fan!
Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)

How did you manage to get it ordered and delivered on the same day?
  • The same night it was delivered -- next day -- :p

    returns FAQ states the following:

    28 Day Approval Guarantee
We will replace or refund most items provided they are returned to us within 28 days of receipt complete, unused, in their original packaging and with any security tags intact.

so it doesn't seem to be an 'extra' clause for the fan, but more a reiteration of the original guarantee

If its a choice between paying over a grand for something im not happy with or taking it back damaged, yes i will go with the damaged. If its noisy, it should have said on the information about the fan at the time.

Maybe you could just steal one instead to save some time? Deliberately vandalising a product to get a refund isn't IMO useful consumer advice, although each to their own.

Chuff me, over a grand on a fan. I'd expect it to make me cups of tea on request for that price.

Have we established that OP received the required information in a durable medium?

By the way OP, Distance Selling gives you 7 working days starting day after delivery to notify them (dont have to return goods within this time) of your intent to cancel - providing you were informed of your right to cancel prior to the conclusion of a contract. If not, you have 7 working days starting the day after you receive that information - up to a maximum of 3 months and 7 working days.
You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means - Inigo Montoya, The Princess Bride
