  • These comedy threads are a real hoot to read :rotfl:

I've alway been of the opinion 'you can't help stupid folk...'

Just to reiterate, from personal experience...

During a year of renovations at our house with builders tools etc there was no real increase in electricity as it was offset by using very little domestic use...

No gas here only electric and it took £20k of investment in Solar PV and Heat Pump to get to mains gas prices for heating and hot water etc...

So to voluntary give up mains gas and go to ordinary electric heaters... Talk about shooting yourself in the foot. As for the case studies you are still looking for... well there arn't any as nobody that daft.

This website is awash with great information so surf away...

Given that your house is presumably quite large and 'high end', ripping out gas CH and DHW will probably make it unsaleable. However well insulated it is, your utility bills will go from £1K to £2.5K or more.

As stated earlier by the OP it is a small 2 bed ex MOD house(presumably an ex-married quarter).

Given her neighbours want to know how to make it the same open-plan configuration - presumably it is one of several of the same type. I wonder if they all have 1 acre gardens. Must have been a much sought after Married Quarter 'patch'.

What surprises me is that with such a large garden, it would normally be in a rural location and it is indeed surrounded by farms. Yet most rural locations don't have mains gas.

You don't want your heating on 24 hours a day.

Maybe a new programmable thermostat would be good.
It allows you to set 4 to 6 different temperatures during the day.

Hot in morning and evening and lower temps at other times when your in bed or sun out.
