So now I'll be groggy all day
I did warn you!I'm recommending Watsapp Messenger originally rcommended to me by Chewie. Lets you send images and media free when you're in a wifi area. Costs a £1 per years after the first year free. A few media messages in and you're in profit.
WhatsApp is a lifesaver. I have a few groups on there where I can post a random comment and get almost immediate answers, a virtual knocking on friends door, "anyone got spare sugar", "half price cheese in Tesco's today", "anyone want to see film next week".lostinrates wrote: »You need a sleep app. Or one of those self hypnosis or meditation apps.;)
The kids put a sleep app on their phone where it detected when they were in the right type of sleep to be gently woken up in the morning. For DS2 who was is hopeless at getting up, it worked amazingly well. I think it works by detecting movement and wakes you by gently vibrating and playing music. I suggested he only use it for a short time, for however we accept that phones are a part of our lives, I'm not convinced that sleeping with one 3 inches from your brain is terribly healthy.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. No, neither am I.
My father worked in an environment where they were early adopters and heavy users of mobile technology. Of his immediate work circle I know of a few who have had tumours on that side of their head. But I think it must be a coincidence, because with the massive usage now we'd expect to hear about massive increases in such things were they real. I know a few stories arise every now and again about such things, but less frequently now than some years ago, and they always used to be from some people who looked like they lived off mungbeans exclusively.0 -

The thing that I find amusing is when people that are 'allergict to electromagnetic waves' are interviewed about it in a TV studio. I think that was a 90s thing.0 -

I used to live 'very near' one of the people who featured in a television 'documentary' about people who are allergic to everything. Firstly......there were flaws in the reasoning, but secondly I have wondered recently if my new turn of health is karma0 -

My desk (it was dh's mothers) sits in the corner of the sitting room, it has quite a heavy presence, and I'd prefer it 'cut the corner' rather than be square on to the wall, as ATM because we have too much furniture squeezed in, everything feels like a furniture show room.
On the top of it sit a little group of books, not right at the back, just behind half way, but when I tried it on the slant before I dusted the top and the books all went heater shelter down the gap at the back and were lost til I could get DH to reach behind than he moved the desk back.
It does leave quite big corner gap behind .......would other np leave it flat against the wall?
I think I'd have it straight against the wall, unless I could put "something" on top of the desk to prevent droppage.:)lostinrates wrote: »I think perfect rationality would be actually pretty terrifying thing in people.
We are a compilation of our failures in rationality, our hypocrisies and our contradictions. That's the only reason I'm still interested in people really. It's getting harder & harder to keep the government in the manner to which they have become accustomed.0 -
I'm exhausted. Have been since monday, which is a bit strange.
Didn't exactly have a busy weekend, so it's not that.
Haven't had a day off since october, indeed only 3 days off since mid august, & since then had one month with loads of working over, then a very busy month, & have had to work a few saturdays too.
Fortunately I've sorted most christmas shopping already, so won't have excessive weekends between now & christmas. However, wondering if anyone else feels similar? Could it be a form of SAD? Or is it just (more likely) that I've been ploughing on for 3.5 months non-stop with very little in the form of a break? It's getting harder & harder to keep the government in the manner to which they have become accustomed.0 -
Ah yes, lir's desk. Lost my response to that.
I'd turn it round so that you sit behind it, put it on an angle, and to maintain that angle into the corner, but something with a smaller footprint but taller, behind it. But do do that, the rear of the desk would have to have an aesthetic appeal too. Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? Went to see Gravity at the cinema recently.
In some respects it is a pretty intense film. It's well done, in the claustrophobia of space is well done.
Elements of it make you feel a little uncomfortable. I wouldn't say I relaxed whilst watching it.
At the same time, it didn't drag, indeed it flew by, so I was engaged.
A couple of small things about the ending annoyed me, but I won't post yet in case any NP's plan to see it. It is recommended.
There was a wonga advert before the film - this theme of their using "real people" to endorse them. The advert centred on a lad who got a wonga loan to buy his gf an engagement ring.
Now I dunno about you, but having to get a wonga/payday loan to get an engagement ring doesn't shine out to me as being the best advert for a future spouse does it?It's getting harder & harder to keep the government in the manner to which they have become accustomed.0 -
