I have heating, I don't have money I want to waste on using it.

Wear hat indoors, especially if hat is fleecy. When it is really cold, it makes a big difference to have your whole self wearing clothes rather than just from the neck down, with loads of heat escaping through your head.

Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.

Lidl light 'dairylea' = nowhere near as tasty or cheesy as the real thing.

Ah, but is that because it's Lidl, or because it's light? "Light" usually means less fat, less flavour, more who-knows-what-artificial-junk, and more sugar.

I'm still very much stuck in the 20th century on the mobile front. Last year, I got this:

    uk_GT-E2550SKAXEU_001_Front?$L2-Gallery$

Was around £30 on Amzon, unlocked, sim free.

The last phone I bought was a fiver. The one before was £30, but I gave that to DW. Mind you, I compared my phone with an iphone, and it's a bit like comparing roller skates to a sports car.
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?

They were giving advice on tv news the other day about keeping warm. One was only drink decaf tea and coffee, not the normal stuff and the other I remember was don't wear a hat.

I thought....that was written by peoe who have never lived it.

The crucially important thing I find is warm feet though. The uber toasty thermal socks that don't fit in normal shoes (currently being sold in tescos) are super.....I always have cold feet but these keep my feet almost human, and these inside uggs have my feet at pretty much body temperature at the Moment. If my feet are warm I am much more comfortable.

Yeah, thick socks ftw. One way I get to be warm quite often is to put a pillow over my feet.... seems to make a huge difference compared to not having a pillow on them.

Home from dietician. She was nice but utterly useless. She said, it looks like you can only safle eat potatoes, tuna, chicken and lamb. I said I'd pretty much worked that out but don't like to eat too much protein ( or potatoes ) and have been feeling better for ten days or so.

She said.....its actually pretty amazing what your body is doing and I cried.

Is that cried in a good way?

What do other nice people have for decoration? And is it what they would want if they were choosing now? What's the favorite colour / theme of nps' christmas trees?

I haven't done decorations for years, when I did, I used to put up all the Christmas tree baubles that my Mum had, so some very old fashioned ones and certainly no colour theme.

We have a small plastic tree, approx 3ft high, with red balls and silver tinsel. There will also be a wreath on the door and that's it.

With the nutcrackers, I admit I don't like them. My mother buys them and I have nightmares thy are taking over. But this year I thought we should collect them (random thought because people collect things) at the rate of one every year. Only every year of what. If its since we have been married we are already behind, so should I but some to catch up with the shortfall, or just start collecting things I don't particularly like but would put out for Christmas from now on?

My mind is a strange place.

Agree about the importance of feet. I find this particularly in the summer - I go somewhere for the evening where people are likely to spend much of the time outdoors, and arrive when it is daylight and warm wearing flipflops or something strappy on my feet, and then as soon as the sun goes down, I feel cold. Now I have learnt that when going to such things I need to take socks and shoes to change into once it starts getting colder, and then I can be at a comfortable temperature all evening.

    .

No, cried in a frustrated and angry and fed up and lots of other negative emotions way.

My family aren't sentimental, I have a few from them, but they are gold, or near enough. so it works. Others are glass and one day we might have two trees. when I have more energy.

Am I missing something here? When did nutcrackers come into it? And why would you want to collect nutcrackers? How would you tell them apart from each other - most of them seem to be very similar.

Over the years I've inclined more and more towards not bothering with other forms of decorations other than lights of one kind and another. We have a couple of sort of swag things in fake Christmas tree type stuff with white lights in, and a wreath (same kind of stuff, also with lights) and then I like to put strings of lights up round the inside of the house and one string of them outside. DD thinks this is very boring of me - she would prefer the outside ones to be enormous animated snowmen or something, but I prefer just strings of lights without pictures or even writing.

However, that raises the question of what to do with the lights - leave them on most of the time, only switch on for a little while in the evening? What do other NP do? How about our uber-fire-conscious NPs? Do you (or would you) stick to non-electric decorations?
