Do any NPs have good tips for house insurance for DD's student acommodation (it's a private let shared with other students, none related to LL).
Check whether your home insurance covers the student away from home.
Endsleigh is one, cover4students is another.
It always strikes me as a con that a group of students living together as a house hold insure separately but a couple living together insure together. I do wonder if there is anyone that would insure as a group.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. I never bothered with insurance when I was a student but I suppose that's because I had nothing worth insuring. I had a clapped out 486 pc worth £50 tops and a 5 year old CD player that you couldn't have given away and that was it. My fountain pen was probably my third most valuable possession.
I don't think I would bother with contents insurance unless the premium was 2% of the value of the stuff insured or less, personally.0 -
Sue, we nicked our ideas from this post on another part of the forum, kudos to Mankysteve and Mrjoet.
I'd hit freecycle first and then work my way up the stores MSE style starting with poundland.

That list is massive!! No way on earth that can all be afforded, even at knock down prices, he would be better stocked than I am!
Thanks though...We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.0 -

We didn't supply all that. DD'd have been better off than us!
It was like an ambitious wish-list but if there's any co-ordination going on between other students / parents it would cut out loads of unnecessary duplication. There is no honour to be had in not knowing a thing that can be known - Danny Baker0 -

Definitely won't need all of that, and probably won't have space either to transport it there or to store it after he's got there. It's a starting point, though - he can eliminate things from the list that he won't need. Begin by finding out more about the place where he'll be living - what's provided, what's allowed, etc.Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Point them to https://www.AtaLoss.org which does for bereavement support what MSE does for financial services, providing links to support organisations relevant to the circumstances of the loss & the local area. Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.0 -

I think this is probably because you can only insure your own possessions? For instance if you are renting and you get contents insurance, that insurance does not cover the landlord's stuff that is in the house and I suppose the same applies for other people who live there who aren't 'related' to you. If you are cohabiting it's probably different - i expect you're deemed to jointly own all possessions for insurance purposes cos it's too much hassle at their end to try to work out who owns what. When I was living in a houseshare (when not a student) you couldn't get collective insurance.0 -
Spell check..... can't specifically name person who this is addressed to as it corrects to something irrelevant. However my dad often has furniture bits and Bob's as a result of his job, free to collect. Will let you know if he gets anything, sods law means that he will now have a quiet couple of months. He does get all sorts though. Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing?
