Those baguettes aren't crispy, so they don't cause thousands of bits to fly everywhere. The top part is crispy but not dry/harsh. Once nuked for 15-20 seconds they still retain all their integrity.
The habits I have developed for these are:
- Slice them lengthways, then hold them together and cut in half.
- Put onto the baking tray, in the middle of the oven, for just a few minutes.
- Remove them from the oven and they're already cut/ready to use.
- Eat one and put three other halves into two of the takeaway plastic lidded boxes
To nuke one, it's good to use those plastic boxes as you can place them slit-side uppermost, to hold the innards. Then I use the plastic boxes to eat from
Sometimes I do toasted cheese baguettes. For that I'll start by cooking all four halves, then when they start to go brown I'll open one of them out and add the cheese. That way I've one toasted cheese to eat straight away and 3 plain for later.
I'd also be prepared to bet that they'd make PERFECT hotdog rolls for those people planning any BBQs.0 -
Don't you find if you nuke them they go tough unless you eat them very quickly?
DD1 got through round 1 of 3, DD2 got through two rounds but didn't make the final cut - this was a relief to me as I think it might have been a bit much for her.
DDs acted a bit upset but DW is clearly not cut out to be a 'stage school mom' as she was very upset and accusing the selectors of all sorts of bias - not at all constructive for the DKs to witnessI think....0 -
Belated happy birthday, SC. I hope that you have a wonderful year ahead.
Curiously, we did lots of walking yesterday, too, as DW had an outpatients appointment at a hospital 5 miles away, and she doesn't use transport on the Sabbath. So, we walked over 10 miles. DW had chosen UCH, as it's a teaching hospital with a great reputation, but you have to take your appointments when you can get them or be put to the back of the queue.
The bonus was that the weather was fantastic here also. The walk across Hampstead Heath soon after dawn, with the sun shining was beautiful. That was quite an eye-opener for me, as I don't usually do dawn.
Belated happy birthday to Silvercar from me too.
Interesting about not using transport on the sabbath, GDB. Isn't there some limit to how far you're allowed to walk on the sabbath, though?Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Point them to https://www.AtaLoss.org which does for bereavement support what MSE does for financial services, providing links to support organisations relevant to the circumstances of the loss & the local area. Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.0 -

This is part of the same issue as wanting the DKs to be top at everything in school and making DS cry pushing him to read early, though, isn't it?Do you know anyone who's bereaved? I eat them within 2 days usually. Not tough at all or I'd have dismissed them as "cheap cr4p". I stock up, with 3-4 packs, every time I go to Lidl and probably eat 2-3 packs a month.0 -

Michaels, best you know now. Its very important for working kids to have parents of the right mind set. Not to be professionally successful but to remain emotionally on a kilter and in contact with family in later life. Please ignore my previous suggestion, somethings just are not worth it.0 -
Today we are at auditions for Annie. Both girls got through first call back. On the stage school audition both girls were offered 50 percent scholarships which unfortunately still leaves it far outside our affordability. There is a slight suspicion that perhaps all the auditionees were offered a discounted place at the newly opened branch or perhaps I am just a cynic...
You got me thinking the same thing. I remember seeing some politician opening up a stage school in the North. They spun it as opening up opportunities for young people to develop their talents. Someobody pointed out that stage schools are, for many students, training for the dole. The nation only needs so many actors /actresses (is that still a word)
Mind you there's a huge educational/job availability mismatch in many fields. There's about 100 people studying Forensic Science for every job that comes up. Media students and journalism, much more so.There is no honour to be had in not knowing a thing that can be known - Danny Baker0 -

My sister, who is a journalist, didn't do media studies or journalism at uni at all....much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0 -

I gather that's true of most journalists. There are degrees that can help if you've specialist knowledge. My mate did this degree and ended up writing books and working for the BBC. Mind you he'd agree neither is steady work.
One way to get on in journailsm is to learn languages. Another mate speaks Polish and Chinese and was sent by a news agency all round Asia. Fascinating work; gets to meet interesting people. There is no honour to be had in not knowing a thing that can be known - Danny Baker0
