Wow! So many NP who don't like open plan living. I thought I was the only person left on the planet to be so far behind the times.
Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Point them to https://www.AtaLoss.org which does for bereavement support what MSE does for financial services, providing links to support organisations relevant to the circumstances of the loss & the local area. (Link permitted by forum team)
Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.

Anybody with kids will know that open plan is just plain wrong. Walls don't make a place smaller they make it more interesting and give you storage places, places to put things against and have cupboards, shelves and wardrobes.

As I said before I don't like the trend for knocking a toilet and bathroom into one room. Decreases the utility massively. My uncle's prefab was tiny but well-laid out inside so it looked like it had loads of rooms.

What I don't like about open plan living, where that is the only room, apart from the smell ... is that all that's really happened is they've taken the kitchen and turned it into a bedroom and put in a line of kitchen units - and put the price up by £50k as it's got an additional bedroom.

    Place hasn't got bigger....

I'd want an open plan dining/kitchen area as a choice, not as the only room. And I'd want double doors to the lounge, so the space is there if you open the doors, or not if you don't.

Only big difference I'd want to see in that would be for the bedrooms to have cupboards on the adjoining walls - for extra sound insulation.

Well, that's how I feel. But look at the families in the Newhall Be video. They have kids and they want and like open plan living.

I came across this. Any thoughts on what the recruitment policy might be for:

    1. Senior management
    2. Everyone else

They took away my deck chairs! They're gone. Gutted. I had to sit on a small wall instead. I'll have to complain.

It's another lovely day here but the wind is getting up and you can feel the chill in the air which means the cool change is coming through. I'll be cycling home in the rain tonight and it's going to rain all weekend. Never mind, I'll enjoy the sun while it lasts and hopefully the rain will bring some of my herbs back to life.

Seen that a few times - yeah, massive fear of fire ... and no pots.

You wouldn't believe my fears ...... here are a few:

1] Studio flat I lived in - never turned on the immersion heater to heat the water (in 2 years) as I was petrified of it catching fire.
2] Same studio flat - had storage heaters. Never used them once in 2 years as I was petrified of them ..... catching fire.
3] All ovens - can't have more than 2 rings on at a time (2 is pushing it) - fear of overloading electricals and it starting a fire.
4] All ovens - scared of turning the oven on, turning it on too high, turning it on for a long time. Frightened it'll cause an electrical fire.
5] Here, daren't turn on the microwave and the kettle/toaster at the same time - fear of fire.
6] Here - daren't turn on the toaster and kettle at the same time - fear of fire
7] Here - every second the gas boiler's running I am anxious and listening/smelling for any changes in case ... yep, it's caught fire.
8] All showers, including here, scared of electrocution the minute I turn it on .... scared to use it too long in case it causes a fire. Daren't stay in the shower too long in case it's started a fire in another room that the cable passed through.

    :)

When you get your own place, save yourself a bit of money and get your house electric tested. What we've done in our house also is fitted the latest double pole sockets. You don't need them, but they should give you peace of mind to use more than one 13 amp appliance at a time (though not off an extn lead obv).

Single pole sockets are still perfectly safe though, I should make that clear.

No kids for us and we don't like open plan either. Four reasons...

    1. Presence of smells
    2. Loss of storage
    3. Don't want to hear washing machine when watching tv, reading a book or listening to music.
    4. After a meal, it's nice to sit and let it go down for a bit, without looking over at a pile of dishes calling.

    That's just shocking.

It's not just that they are all young and attractive, they've all got long hair too. I just hope that the Amazonian tribe all say "yeah, you wish, in your dreams grandad".
