  • Update: They created it. Sands Hotel. 20 bedrooms. Bar/restaurant on whole of ground floor. Ice cream parlour. Bar/restaurant thriving; bookings picking up

There's a Sands Hotel near Newquay in Cornwall. It's slightly odd. And quite pricey, too.

OH is doing the London Marathon next year. And because he's insane, that very evening, he and Isaac are taking the night flight to Israel, because the following night is the start of Passover.

I'm not going - OH wanted me to, because on El Al you can fly up to 36 weeks' pregnant, so I'd just squeak in, and he didn't want to leave me here on my own. I pointed out, rather forcefully, that I'd far rather me in London on my own than risk having the baby in Israel!

    <whinge mode on>

I should be feeling less sick by now, but I'm getting more sick - had to get off the train twice on the way home to throw up, and the last few days, I've been very sick indeed.

Why does everyone feel the need to remind me I'm getting old?

A year older than i was last year today!

Two years older than you were a year and a day ago!

    Happy Birthday!

I know, last on the right as you leave Porth going north. They have always marketed themselves as a "Hotel for Children ..... you can bring your parents", so trying to emphasise that they focus on kids' needs first and adults' needs second.

    There's racist for you :)

Not really - just imagine the grief you'd have trying to bring a newborn baby back to the UK, and get it a passport in Israel <shudder>

And Israel is a foreign place for me. Not for OH, but it is for me, and I'd rather have the baby, as planned, in London (-:

Spirit's not working part-time until next year. And my bd's on a Saturday. So, your kind offer, on balance, wouldn't work for all concerned I didn't think.

The price of his flights on those days may be enough to send you into labour!

Probably less hassle than getting it an Israeli passport in London.

Having had to visit the Israeli embassy in London once, the security was far more difficult than any place in Israel I've ever visited.

Whinge all you like. I think you are very unlucky to be so sick through your pregnancy again. It was the reason I hated being pregnant and I was only sick from weeks 6 to 14.

OH has renewed his passport several times there, and it's a struggle, certainly!

When he was about 20, and struggling to do his passport form for the first time himself (his Dad had filled it in before that, for him) he spent most of an afternoon and evening battling with it. His reading and writing in Hebrew is really, really slow, although it's his first spoken language.

On about page 35 of the form, the final thing it said was, "English, French, German, Russian <etc> versions of this form may be obtained from local embassies" which made him turn the air blue.
