I wonder how much of this is enforced by tablet auto correct. Mine capitalises Windows when I really want to talk about the glazed holes in my walls, changed Schrodinger to Schlesinger when I mentioned wave equations, and constantly changes lir to lie. For the latter I must apologise to said NP (which auto corrects to MP, but when I type MP instead auto corrects to NO) for any time past, present or future when I fail to pick up on that.

Why not just call me lost? :).

I've been here a month and 4 days now :) Has flown past. Still trying to persuade n power that the prepayment meter was replaced over a year ago and they should know that it is a normal gas meter. Nevermind.

Favourite thing? Hmmmm... I guess that I like that it is 'mine'. Put my first couple of picture hooks in the wall over the weekend :) Also don't have to be fully dressed at all times (e.g. to nip downstairs to get a drink). It's also nice showing people I'm a cheapskate for a reason (I really was saving up to spend it all on something...).

Favourite room is definitely my bedroom. It's the room that looks most homely, but my also bed faces an original fireplace :)

(That was a few favourites, wasn't it! I guess I've been trying to remind myself that I should be enjoying this, not just worrying about paying for it :))
You're welcome round for a tour any time.

Glad you're enjoying it nikks, sounds wonderful. Having a fireplace in the bedroom is lovely.

I'm glad you are making it YOUR home nikkster! If the bedroom is homely do you have a next target to 'nikksterfy'?

Wouldn't that be 'Baby' rather than 'baby'? They are giving the child the patronym 'Baby'. 'Bub' I find irritating.

The use of Myself, Ourselves and Yourselves when people mean me, us and you bugs me. Oh and I find the use of alot rather than a lot strangely irritating too. And data as a singular word as in 'the data is' or 'the data shows'. The data show that it's particularly bad when economic writers get that wrong.

It most seems to be northern NHS staff talking to pregnant women on reality documentaries about the NHS.

E.g. "You need to stop smoking/drinking/intravenously injecting heroin: it will harm baby".

I can't deal with people who use 'myself' in the wrong place either.

I've just seen it again on a facebook thread. It's always people who don't use it in everyday speech either, just when they're trying to assert authority or make a good impression of themselves. The irony!

Not seen anything. Expanded the search area just to see more pretty pictures, but nothing appeals and there are no new properties in my two chosen areas.

There've been a few "interesting" finds - where "interesting" means - quirky but really couldn't live there/in that .... just some innovative way that people've found to take small places and charge £400/square whatsit for what's an inadequate property. You really do pay way OTT for 1-beds, it's ridiculous. That's why 2-beds and 3-beds are more often chosen.

Keep looking and register will al the EA's in case something comes on and doesn't get online. OH's brothers place sold straight away and then the details went on to RM a few days later with a SSTC banner.

My brother and I definitely used to share a bath. We also shared baths with visiting friends. As if that wasn't scandalous enough, I believe there is photographical evidence

:rotfl:Worse than this I can attest to doing the same as above but I am sure I have a photo of DD aged about 2 standing up doing a wee in the bath and son making an aghast expression.

I didn't think a bit of toddler wee diluted in several gallons of water was too much of a hygiene issue at the time...I think the parabens floating about in the suds from the Matey were more harmful.

Wonder if all the NP's could rustle up 10 mill between us? Then we could create a colony and new tribe.
The downside being that we would have to evict all the villagers (many who have lived there for generations) and so would cease to be NP's.

OH dear I am putting off e-mailing my Dad the not so good news on my mother.
Apart from all the practical problems with her being ill we now seem to be having emotional baggage cropping up on both their sides and they divorced 35 years ago. They ceased to live as a proper married couple 40 years ago......they have new partners both of them.....waaay too complicated for even me to write about on the NP thread as we (me and siblings) are losing patience with it a bit.

Hard for her as I think she wants to say things to him but he's now deaf. She could write, but she won't as the current husband (been with him nearly 40 yrs) would be upset about it.

The bad news is that she cannot leave before Friday, the surgeon wants to keep her in for more tests and has said she will either need to return fairly soon or stay in as he now wants to slice off a chunk of liver as well.

We believe this is to replace the actual tube (which appears to be a relatively new procedure and not that common) but we only get the info that she relays to us post ward round.

Worse, I know she is going to be emotionally struggling with this news. She doesn't 'do' mobiles and we tried to suggest giving her one + a text lesson but it's not going to happen. The 'phone system above her bed doesn't seem to work that often but likes to be fed lots of £1 coins regularly.

2 visitors at a time is the limit so my slot is Wednesday pm and I am running out of positive chat and vibes.....what do I say?

It's not that simple. Not enough places to live there (even if it were all empty), so a high price/unit.

Also, most of the residents have those long/cheap leases that get passed through the family forever, so can't shift the current tenants .... which would be mean to do even if they weren't on old historical leases.

I think it's important that you try to find a way to achieve it; closure is important and it's nice she's trying to tie up loose ends.

I know nothing about livers, but I think I read that it's one of those things that you can just have a bit of one without a problem. I think, could be making it up, that it's been known for adults to donate a part of one where a kid needs a transplant..... or I could be talking b0ll0x and confusing with some other innards.

You get her interpretation of the bits she can put into sentences, which might not resemble what was said at all!

Would an ipad and video calling work easier/better? I know some people are simply never going to learn ..... but an iPad's bigger so less fiddly.

No idea. It's always hard to know what to say after you've done: Hello, how are you? What did you have for your tea? Then read their chart on the bottom of the bed and looked round for things to fiddle with.

Not having ever been taught proper English, or the names of those bits of language ..... when is/isn't the right time to use the term 'myself'?

Some of the answers are out of date but it compliments the 'how northern are you?' Quiz.

    http://www.gotoquiz.com/how_london_are_you

I am 82% London. Combined with my northern score, this makes me 107% something.

When you are talking to myself. I can talk to myself, but you cannot talk to myself.

People use it instead of 'me' yet it isn't hard to know when you should use 'me'.
