Just been chauffeuring DD back to her flat in the other side of London. Wish she lived in Reading or Oxford or somewhere easier to get to.

Gen, complain! Oz has kept many endagered animal groups alive, including marsupials and platypi. Let there also be one corner of the world where good manners hasn't gone extinct!

PN, register and see a quack!

Hamish, next bottle you buy get it delivered to me. I'll keep it safe for ya! :D

A moral conundrum for the nice people.

do I accept that in the C21st my kids should expect to have words like that in the music they hear in school?

No you do not have to accept it. If you do not complain this will become the standard that is normal for the school environment. Lovely event to have though..very envious and hope the music blip is part of the legend and did not spoil it.

When DD was small my OH was the Chair of the PTA and had good fortune ;)to organise a couple of balls and summer fetes.
The music at one fete was provide by a band of dads including the late Davy Jones. I cannot hear day dream believer without smiling ....very happy days.

A moral conundrum for the nice people.

As I said earlier, I was at the school fete today. The school is for children between the ages of 4.5 and 12. In between the bands that were on they had some pop music playing, in the course of 3 songs the words/phrases, "sl u t", "o ral se x" and "motherf c uker" were pretty clearly heard along with the normal misogynistic crap that goes along with music of that sort.

Should I go up to the school to complain or do I accept that in the C21st my kids should expect to have words like that in the music they hear in school?

I don't even see it as a conundrum. It's a clear cut lapse of manners.

We've misguidedly glorified and shoved shallow mysogynistic homophobic pro-violence work-avoiding anti-educational low-aspirational twaddle into the impressionable ears of our nearest and dearest.

It's like the "music" the Victorians would have done if they became too lazy to invent machines or even tunes but had woken up after some brain incident that left them convinced that swearing was somehow a vitamin.

And don't give me that nonsense that it's anybody's culture, it's a mere fashion - unless you're the kind of sad act that thinks that the Goths are a culture.

There's enough divisions in society without this kind of nonsense.

Showing my age here! Anybody guessed I'm not a fan?

    :money:Just saved £30 a month over 2 mobile phone tariffs:money:

Who did you go with? We recently saved £15 a month over two. Switched DH mobile to Tesco, mine was already with them but tariff recently expired so we bundled. All due to Vodafone repeatedly screwing up DH billing. After having to call them every month for five months because they had overcharged, they actually had the cheek to say he would be sorry for moving to Tesco as the service isn't as good and they will badger US with cold calls (total rubbish).

Mind you I just scored 95% on the North-o-meter on another thread which considering my origins isn't that weird (or is it?).

As this is a somewhat southerly thread (on average) I wonder how the other NPs would do?;)
