EDIT: It looks like UV systems still use a tiny bit of chlorine. But there are other types of pools dotted around the country that use salt, or brine .... or, you could always add to your list of house goodies one of those trainer pools..... not sure if you've seen them but they're like a tank that you swim in, but the water flow matches your speed so you never advance.... swimming on the spot. More for rich triathletes than having a good swim though0 -

How are YOU? ( besides practicalities)
Thank you. I am tired. I am fighting off a cough - have been in bed for both my non-working days this week to try to get better and conserve my voice for teaching - which worked brilliantly in that I got through without any actual time off work, but made yesterday and today a bit stressful because I hadn't done the marking and preparation that I ought to have done on Wednesday. Fortunately my HoD is prepared to back me up that slacking off on the PPA is OK if it enables me to keep working when ill. I had DS's school parents' evening last night (very constructive but rather exhausting) and then all this hassle tonight, and I've got to be in school all morning tomorrow for an extra-curricular thing, which doesn't help. Next week is the anniversary of the death so we will be having a meal out with LNE's parents. It will also be DD's school parents' evening next week. I have been doing better recently in terms of my emotional energy levels, but I still don't deal well with feeling that it is coming at me from all directions at once.lostinrates wrote: »Re the girl....well, I approve of kids working. Yes, that's more or less what I thought.
Am going to bed now. Good night all. :hello:Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.0 -
Blimey, trainer pools are £18k

Cheaper to clean out the cake and put a shed over it
Or two jobs in one: a trainer pool / 2 person hot tub

£12k + VAT: http://www.paramountpools.co.uk/SmartPool/Smart_trainer.htm0 -

Hmmmm. Or perhaps turn them into a pool for carp? The food of the future? There is no honour to be had in not knowing a thing that can be known - Danny Baker0 -

Salt pools are fantastic. Most homes over here (that have pools) have them and most council pools are salt water too. They don't really hurt your eyes although it is still advisable to wear goggles. Your skin feels quite nice and soft sometimes after a swim in one of those too.
When I worked at the Uni we had a really nice 50m outdoor salt water pool that was heated! As is normal in Unis, staff and students got to use it on the cheap, from recollection it was less than 2 quid a swim. It was fantastic in the winter because you'd get it pretty much to yourself.0 -

Within the area I'd describe as Greater Sydney I doubt you can get more than 10kms from a 50m salt water pool and even that's probably a stretch. Then again, Aussies like their taxes being spent on sports facilities. Brits seem to be more into spending on social engineering with their taxes.
The City of Sydney itself has 5x50 meter pools alone!

This is my favourite:
$96 (about £40 at a 'normal' exchange rate) for 20 swims. That's Sydney Harbour in the background. Apparently it doubles as a gay pick-up joint. No idea if that's true.0 -

When I was at school there, I was taught that Australia was unique, the only place in the world that had given its name to an island, a country and a continent. In fact I was taught a lot about why Australia is special. This is not something I was ever taught about the UK in a UK school. Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing?
