That way nothing mucky need make it past the door. Also, the tap can be isolated from under my kitchen sink with its own stopcock so no fear of anyone stealing my water or pipes freezing (my OCDs).
Anyhow, will shut up now because ultimately it is your choice. We just all want you to be settled and happy.
We have an outside pair of taps - hot and cold. Never worked out why as they are at the side of the house, so not near any useful space where you may want hot water.
The problem with all the nets replacement options is that there is nowhere to attach curtain poles or blinds and shutters on windows with "diamond" lead would look crazy.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. I'm sure michaels was measuring in meters - hasn't his kitchen been extended with bi-folding doors?
Our kitchen is big, but then it also contains a TV+sofa area and a dining table. I'll measure tomorrow.
The family bathroom is quite small, our en-suite is bigger because the plans had to change when the previous owners could only afford to build half the planned extension, so their options were limited.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. ...windows with "diamond" lead would look crazy.
They are something that I hate and wouldn't ever want to even view a house that had those. I bet they're a pain to keep clean, fiddly - and make the rooms dark,
Did you buy/choose them, or get stuck with them?0 -

Just checked, he said "7.6 by 5.8" which is 25' x 19'
So that's about the size of both the floors of the whole house I'll get.
I've never seen, and can't imagine, a kitchen (or any room) that big. That's the size of a double unit mobile home!0 -

We are just over a mile from the station. DW does it more often than me, as I work from home, but she reckons that that is just right to get her brain in gear in the morning. Mind you, she does tend to take the bus home in the evenings.
How do house prices vary with distance from the station? Would it be worth living further away and getting a bike that you can leave at the station?
Is is a bit cheaper when you get around 15 mins walk from the station, although the main problem is not actually price but supply - if a 3 bed came on the market in decent condition close to the station I would happily pay an arm and a leg for it, but nothing is coming on the market.
It does look like we'll have to accept a longer walk than I want to the station or just wait forever. Bike is an option but a right pain to have to cart the stuff around all day to ride it home and I am not a fan of cycling in my suit.
Being out of London travel card zone is a pain as well as it means that you can't just hop on a bus to cut the journey down. If there is a bus then it is infrequent and you have to pay extra and the bus only serves a small part of the area so probably wouldn't help.0 -
Of course.... buying a house means I can forget the beach-hut dream... but then the problem with those isn't the cost of buying them - it's the fact that the rents escalate annually above inflation as richer people want them and rents are raised by the Council to get as much as they can.
It can be £2-3k/year just for the rental; buying one can start at £20k if you're lucky, with £35k being very typical.0 -

Not done the figures on sq ft for the ones I've requested yet .... but the first few I added to the list in the last couple of days vary between £2500/square metre and £5000. or £210-430 per square foot.
Usually on the bottom of the floorplan? It'll say something like "gross internal area - 1,200 sq. ft".PasturesNew wrote: »Question for NPs - how big are your kitchens and bathrooms?
Kitchen - I can tell you precisely from our kitchen design plan. It's 4.68m x 3.3m, which is 15 ' 4" x 10' 10". Big enough for us, includes a table and 4 chairs.
Bathrooms - en suite shower room in the spare is tiny, shower, loo and basin, and nothing else. The main bathroom is bigger, about 10 ' x 7 ', I guess.
My parents' kitchen is by far the biggest room in their house - it's at one end of the ground floor, and has windows on 3 sides. I guess it's about 25 feet by 30 feet, something like that - it has a table which can seat 10 fairly friendly people, an Aga, bookshelves, sinks, huge corner fridge, other chairs, and an island which is 5 ft by 8 ft. Neither of these shows the cooking bit of the kitchen, though:...much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0
