The top of the pudding was good and the sides held up but were a bit soggy. It looked worse through the plastic bowl (I usually use a crockery bowl and you can't see the sides when cooking) although I will use the plastic bowl again as it was a lot less hassle than folding paper and tieing cloths on, and making string handles. The filling was delicious:T. The rescued potatoes were hardly touched. Apart from the abandoned sides it was all eaten.
Windows all steamed up.
I love soggy pastry:o. I wish I'd come. Would have worth being ill..

Sometimes a house that is perfect on paper doesn't live up in reality, and sometimes one house can surprise you. I know I've looked at couple of places when I've been desperate and ruled out all the obvious ones, only to find a wonderful place. Also, once seeing the condition of somewhere, you can decide if certain compromises are worth making.
A huge part of the house buying process surrounds the building itself.
Really agree with this.
Fwiw, I'd been seeing this place on paper for a couple of years and dismissing it, got here having made offer on the other place and DH fell in love.
Sometimes the heart wants something that you hadn't planned.
Its hard for those of us who like to believe we can plan everything, but the truth is you cannot, ......you by a place and the bus routes might change/the Indian restaurant fold or a new school open and the value of your place rocket.
Some times one just has to accept that somethings cannot be planned for.0 -
I'm totally with you onthe price per square foot spreadsheet. I've done the same myself. I did it when I was property hunting for a couple in London and it really helped them focus. If something costs more, then you really need to know where that value is. They bought one of the more expensive ones, but we were able to justify it together.
Price per square foot is around £200 here, for a magnolia shoebox type dwelling.Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

No towels and clothes together for me, they go in at different temperatures but also don't want fluffy bits from towels all over my dark coloured clothes.
I've quite a few towels, so no urgency to wash one.0 -
Dog dog has started lying.
We've been spending time with her in the little lobby off the cheese room and the other two in the cheese room. This means that they all are near me and can hear me, and better than putting dog dog off by her self. I do spend a couple of hours each day with her with me, but the rest of the time we just have a baby gate between us.
Dog dog finds this arrangement unsatisfactory and having realised very quickly that I was not going to succumb to whining or 'yapping' she has started to pretend someone is here, either at the door or prowling around. She's just been doing it now, growling and were wolfing at the door she is by, so (suspecting strongly she was fibbing) I took her out and as soon as I went through to her she for d the lie hard to maintain, being ingratiating and loving rather than ferocious, and by the time we'd got out side she'd forgotten entirely.
I have a case of the wolf crying wolf. Or is it the wolf crying boy?
In either case, its growing old fast.
Edit...she's trying again now.0 -

The ones I've requested details for are all £217-225k and are 2 bed, 3 bed. Integral garage, no garage. Conservatory, no conservatory. Sunny garden, no sun. None have a utility or en-suite.
Will see them all then work out the compromises. "no sun" is pretty much a deal breaker, but until you're on site you can't always tell as the Google car could have gone past at 8am or 8pm .... and right now it's grey all day, so no point driving out.
I'd like to know the £/sq ft because if it came down to two and I couldn't choose, then choosing the best £/sq ft would be something that might come into play.
It's amazing how you can have one house that has a 14x16 bedroom - and another has 2 beds at 7x8 apiece. It's tough finding that sq footage figure though, so trying to guesstimate it's also a few minutes' worth of time.
Not done the figures on sq ft for the ones I've requested yet .... but the first few I added to the list in the last couple of days vary between £2500/square metre and £5000. or £210-430 per square foot.
Is the price per square foot worth more than the spare bedroom to you? Layout is far more important to me, especially if you aren't planning on making big changes. Square footage would keen more to me if I were thinking ..I'll take down that wall down atairs and put an e suite in upstairs by nicking a bit from that room....
When you get a house do you plan to buy a single or a double bed?
Sun, orientation will tell you a great deal and the rest you can consider at a second viewing if it passes muster on all other counts..

If still not a load I'd see what else I'd got. Leggings or PJs are always available for washing. I've usually got a pile - and I pick from the pile the things I most need/want/use, then put the other stuff in.
I've quite a few towels, so no urgency to wash one.
My towels aren't particularly fluffy. I think its more tradition than anything else (and the different temp).
Though thinking about it, all towels go in together at 60 - i.e. tea towels don't go in separately. Would you find that as bad as washing them with underwear?0 -

All my washing is at 40 degrees because I am too scared to turn a machine up higher in case it catches fire
So many "issues" in my crazy mad lady world of worries0 -

Bedrooms are 11x12, 12x9, 9x7. Bath in the bathroom, with shower over.
Patio doors, no conservatory. All grass neat garden, big/small enough.
Kitchen has a great long run of worktop on one side, 6-8' of uninterrupted worktop. Plus the usual bits either side of the hob and the sink.
It's fairly new (20 years max), needs no work whatsoever, just move in and blow up the air bed.
But, it's a band D at £1600 (£1200 with 25% off).
Good room layout too.
So - it's OK/doable..... on paper.
Only things I;d have liked would have been: utiilty, en-suite, conservatory, less grass.
That's good. Is there a price jump between two and 'real' three beds in your area? I would expect real three beds to have more grass , (for foot balls or trampolines or sandpits).
En suite when its just you is a real bonus.....every room is e suite, unless you are planning on getting a lodger the whole house is your suite!0
