I went for the horrid waxing, and whilst i was there they had a cancellation of a double appointment .

So I went again this pm to have a manicure and a back massage. It is self indulgent. Now I am going to have a little sleep.

Sounds blissful. What a piece of last minute luck. I presume you are now too relaxed to feed DH's dinner to the dog?

Our dinner was superb and the people were lovely. We booked again for next month - Brixham crab, mutton and quince on the menu. I've somehow managed to trigger a migraine. It *may* have been the wine (it was slightly too reasonably priced :o)

    Glad it met your expectations.

I have never had mutton. What does it taste like?

OH can have his dinner. Lamb steaks.

He did not hit anything today, although the bag was 62 so we do have a brace of pheasants hanging by the door off the hanging basket hook.

    Sheep?

I assume, from the expression "mutton dressed as lamb" that mutton is a cheaper cut and probably a tougher meat.

I love mutton. Its a stronger taste than lamb, deeper, rounder, even ....gamier. Have you had any of the gamier rare breed sheep? They taste more mutton- ish when only hoggit IMO.

Quince is one of my favourite things. Unable to choose one quince tree for here, I've chosen two, which is disproportionate for our needs, and for the size of orchard I'm planting, but I don't care. I'd have had three if I could justify it. If I find room I still might ( I 'd love a Portuguese quince but I thing we're just too cold here for much luck....I ha no idea was a cold pocket this house would be!) Quince is amazing.

It's standard meat in pies sold in Scottish fish and chip shops and in football grounds. Minced and strongjy seasoned. Delicious!

You get them down here as Scotch pies but I don't remember them ever being called that in Scotland!

I always thought mutton was grown-up sheep and lamb was, well, lamb, so that "mutton dressed as lamb" meant an older woman wearing clothes more suitable for a younger one.

Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.

Yes, lamb is baby sheep - up to a year old; mutton is once it's a full adult sheep.

    The names indicate age.

First they are lambs, then they are sheep, then they are mutton.
