Nice People Thread Part 9 - and so it continues

Well, Friday night's turned out to be "Spud Night". I'd bought some spuds when shopping a week ago, so brought them with me .... and shoved 3 into the oven to bake half an hour ago.
I'll grate some cheddar with one of those, and there's some salad from Wednesday night (lettuce, cucumber, peppers) .... and that'll leave me two more spuds so I can have seconds (if I can manage it), or they're ready to nuke tomorrow for meals.0 -
There's a thread on this forum which may, shall we say, help shed some light on this, it relates to a recent book. This version is 99p on kindle.
I cried laughing at some of these. So silly.
Never read the real book.0 -
I'm a big fan of 'tats, a bit like unsuitable piercings they are a very visible indicator of.....
<ungentlemanly mode>In Australia they are commonly known as 'slag tags'.</ungentlemanly mode>
Tats are huge over here, absolutely massive. The 'sleeve' is very popular:
In some of the Pacific Island cultures, these sleeve tattoos have cultural significance and Islanders are over-represented amongst players of Rugby League (and probably AFL/Aussie Rules too).
My feeling is that there has been a fashion among young white RFL players to get a sleeve to show some kinship with their team mates. However, I have noticed that the young players coming through now increasingly do not have these sleeves or indeed any visible tattoos at all.
What is going to be of great amusement to me, although quite possibly of great distress to tattoo consumers, is that when these things go out of fashion, quite a few people are going to be left with these 'sleeves' and looking more than a little dumb. Someone's going to make a fortune getting rid of these things. Quite possibly the same people that put them on in the first place.
One of the few good things Obama has done is to introduce a rule in his household: if one of his kids gets a tattoo, he and Michelle will both get the identical tattoo in the identical place. I think I'll do the same. That should put the little beggurs off.
We're looking at another house today:

It's just, just, just in budget. It's also a pretty special place.1200m^2 is a tiny fraction under 1/2 acre.0 -

Doesn't have much street presence, the lawn isn't flat enough for soccer and how do you get from upstairs to downstairs?
It is annoying how much cheaper wonderful houses are in most of the world than even somewhere not in London like St Albans, I'm still amazed a senior banker with a highly qualified wife is looking for properties at 400k rather than 1.5m....I think....0 -

It's because I'm not a senior banker!
I might be in line for a rather handy little promotion at work in the next couple of months though0 -

I've heard them called "tramp stamps" here....much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0 -

If I had a little more money I'd go for something more like this:

Now you are just showing off.
Pays for itself with the horse agisting (whatever that is).
40 acres 45 minutes from downtown capital city for what would get you a 3 bed terrace in a fair bit of central London.I think....0 -
