Yes, lamb is baby sheep - up to a year old; mutton is once it's a full adult sheep.

    The names indicate age.

First they are lambs, then they are sheep, then they are mutton.

They are all sheep. First lamb, then hogget, then mutton. ( sort of)

Hogget is great if you aren't sure about trying mutton. Its also what a lot of lamb practically is, I mean, meat doesn't suddenly change at 12 months old from lamb into hogget or mutton, a lamb at eleven and a half months is going to taste much the same three weeks later,
  • Laying hedges is no joke, your father must be very fit.

None of our hedges are good enough to lay, but they are stout and tall on the boundaries so we're not going to do anything about that.

Three planting is ok if your forums wasn't used as a repository for hard core

A lot of the hedges were replanted 2-4 years ago, so they've been laid as they've gone along.

My Dad's not marathon-running fit, nor intensive-aerobic-exercise fit, but he's got a lot of stamina - all that vegetable digging, and 15 mile weekend walks with the dogs, helps.

He had a knee operation 10 days ago, to clean out ripped carteledge (sp?) and already he says its much less painful than it's been for the last couple of years.

My mother has had two knee replacements, and they improved her life no end. Its amazing what removal of pain can do for the spirits. :).

Unless they go from lamb to the dinner table without the intervening stages.

Well hopefully the massage helped with that.

Replaced kitchen sinkl tap at the btl today, toilet seat still outstanding, Dimer switch gets hot, this is probably normal but it is quite hot. I could try replacing it or get lower power bulbs but dimmable LEDS or cfls are pretty expensive when there are 8 to do. Tenant didn't like my suggestion of replacing switch with a non-dimmer one.

Dad's actual knee was OK, the joint, it was some odds and ends floating around.

He's been limping more and more for the last 3 years or so, and finally succumbed to my mother's nagging that seeing a doctor about it might actually help. And the operation has really improved things.

Sounds blissful. What a piece of last minute luck. I presume you are now too relaxed to feed DH's dinner to the dog?

Our dinner was superb and the people were lovely. We booked again for next month - Brixham crab, mutton and quince on the menu. I've somehow managed to trigger a migraine. It *may* have been the wine (it was slightly too reasonably priced :o)

Too relaxed to cook any dinner, probably, let alone feed it to any handy canines?

Sounds a lovely, relaxing day, Spirit!

He did not hit anything today, although the bag was 62 so we do have a brace of pheasants hanging by the door off the hanging basket hook.

DD has posted a pic on her FB page.

A few of my parents' neighbours rear pheasants and have a local shoot. Dad is adamant that they can't shoot on their land, or even beat the pheasants off it. He says that it is a sanctuary for asylum-seeking pheasants, who have a well-founded fear of persecution, and that he can't enjoy watching them all summer and then point them at guns in the autumn.

When I used to live in the countryside it seemed like most pheasants were so scared at the thought of being shot at they tried to end it all on the roads first....

    Indeed. It's badgers here.
