We're off to Cyprus for a week on the 12th.
As we're not that much into spending our days on the beach/near the pool, we're hiring a car for the week also.
If any NP has suggestions on places to see within driving distance of Paphos, those suggestions will be most welcomed. :)

(Trodos mountains and Akamas National Park are already on the list)

We are just back:(. Our fourth visit in 3 years. It hasdefinitely grown on me.
    • Hire motor boats from Latchi. Only a driving licence required.
    • Golf, Tennis (Mr S likes this) incl coaching and very nice spa (I like this) at Aphrodite Hills for Mrs Wheezy.
    • Snorkelling at Blue Lagoon.
    • Sailing boats/tuition at Anassa beach
    • Dinner at Gabriels in Kouklia - go Thurs, Fri Sat nights -inexpensive and it looks like the set of Mama Mia - the hosts are Harley riding twins.
    • You could do a day trip to Nicosia and cross the green line to the Turkish occupied territory
    • Horse riding - I will pm you the recommendation from DD
We had hired a car, but needed a 4x4 for Akamas, so we hired one of those too. Minimum hire was 3 days but we got a very good deal so it was'nt expensive. I will PM you the details . You will need a 4 x 4 if you do more than go from Paphos to Lara bay. We went from Anassa to Blue lagoon, across the mountainous interior and down to Lara Bay. I am a wuss so sat in the back and kept quiet whilst OH and DD (!) got offroading experience.

Our normal car hire was a good deal too - so I will PM that too.

Meh, its just bad luck. QUOTE]

Sorry - nothing to do with luck, it sounds like bullying, unprofessional and disrespectful to me.

If he is not able to redress the balance in this is it time to look for a new employer.

FiR and you deserve better than this.

We didn't have those at my school ... in fact, we had no prefects.

I'd not want to be a canteen prefect - it'd probably get in the way of my special attempts at timing in order to be able to get seconds.

    :)

He gets loads of extra food, that's the plus side because he eats like a pro rugby player and the main reason he was put forward!

Current boss doesn't do that ;). In fact current one is nice but not very organised, which leads to other problems. Clients otoh.......( roll eyes smilie sorely missed).

Holidays need to be flexible. We've only had one as planned ever. :(, we just get bad luck over when things flare up! . The frustrating thing is the thing that's all blown up is a colleagues file....and he's on holiday!:rotfl: ( goes back to boss's organisation.....he shouldn't have let these two plan holiday overlapping ) Dh's file is also ansty but nothing he couldn't have handles in a work from home way...a few hours here and there.

Anyhow, he's just sent me a text asking who the hell another performer is, from the sixties.....I'm looking forward to finding out how it went:)

Edit...re other jobs...problem is he's pretty much at top of pay bracket for what he does in uk. London is definitely an unhappy office in the nature of a pretty decent firm. Brussels had a pretty vile atmosphere in dh's experience, but he wasn't there long and it was all for sasistic boss....

If you think the phone calls were bad...some of the sadistic boss stories are awful...

The client he seconded with want him to go there, they've been fantastic, while I was dropping last year they wanted to take me to Europe for better health provision...but I couldn't fly and felt funny about it anyway, and also, they were cool about work from him, which is a huge boon to us. but its a huge pay drop. We looked at if it were affordable, and it would be, just, but it wouldn't be desirable. :(. He's offered jobs reasonably often, but the stories that come out of other places are often similar and /or there is a pay drop. Doesn't seem worth going into just a different frying pan but for less money.

LiR, if there is no prospect of improving things by talking it over between the two of them then is there an HR service or can FiR approach his line managers boss?

As he/you have to react to this nonsense and you describe it as ongoing it does not sound like water off a ducks back.

Further up the food chain are stakeholders in this. There are risks in poor leadership. If FiR were to leave them how long would it take them to fill his position? Has this manager got form in bullying?

On the pay cut prospects - we have been round that bouy - there were consequences - but it has worked out OK.

DH did challenge it...its a bit of a long story and not one I think I can go into here in the detail I need to. If your interested when we FINALLY meet up for coffee I'll tell you all about how it works. Or tell you via pm? If you mean sadistic bos...yeah, he's got lots of form, and they know it. DH is 'safe' from him ATM partly because some of the other bosses rallied round him (and partly because my DH is clever and made sure he had some evidence). At one point it got really nasty and NDG gave DH the number of someone to ask for advice, but thankfully something changed.

In this case there is no real 'further up' in the sense you mean it there are the bosses and no line manager in that sense either. No real single boss in the office. .....and they cannot sort themselves out (much of where the problem comes from in this office IMO is the politics rather than any work issue whatsoever.

I am sorry to have been so vocal. Reading about your weekend and the atrocious behaviour made me want to go in there to FiR's boss and break all his pencils.

    My sympathy is with you.
