18min walk = 5 min cycle? buy a cheapie and lock it at the station. 5 mins means you won't get sweaty either
It's when it rains that is the problem though. 5 mins cycling in the rain is 100 times worse than 18 minutes walking in it with an umbrella.
There is parking at the station but not enough for it to be of any use as you couldn't guarantee getting a space. You can get quite close to the station and park for free but I'm not sure whether there would be any space on a weekday. In the medium term OH would probably get a job locally so would be driving to work so not a prob for her for too long but I will always need the station. If the house was cheaper, or perfect in every other respect, I would be more willing to take the pain but it is close to the top of our budget. Think I will have to veto unfortunately.0 -

Could she not drop you at the stations?0 -

Possibly, if and when she got a more local job but too much uncertainty and also I would be leaving the house at 6.30/7 and she would likely still be in bed asleep!
I did just suggest to her that I would agree to buy the house if she agreed to drive me to the station, then take the car home and walk back to the station herself. The idea didn't seem to receive serious consideration though.
Ultimately I think the commute needs to be 1 hour max, so we need to be under 10 mins to the station.0 -
...and of course because you have to have one to have broadband.

I think it would come down to that for me too - there have to be enough plusses to make any compromise worth it. If there aren't, then I'd keep looking.
Of course, there does come a point where the compromises you're prepared to make start increasing...0 -

In most villages they'd measure to the house, not the bus stop - meaning half the kids that'd use the bus stop would get a bus pass, the others (with the same distance except a couple of yards) would have to walk, so they were just under the 3 mile limit because there was only one bus stop in the village and they lived the wrong side of it.
It's not undoable!
Same rules apply today; over 3 miles door to door and the council pays for transport. under 3 miles and you are on your own.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. I'm sure you can get cables/ wireless thingies to connect the laptop to the tv screen?
I have recently bought a new TV for the bedroom. You can plug broadband directly into it and watch through that. I'm pretty sure you can get something if not built in as Nikks says. Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? Don't answer if it gives away too much info, but did the issue of the buses being changed ever get resolved round your way? Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing?
