Silly question
how many people have more than 1 tv per couple? we have one and the SS's have to share when they get here and it annoys them. But I don't like the idea of having more than 1 tv in the living room, which makes me terribly old fashioned I think
I have two:
1) A largish but aging CRT TV that was LNE's before he died - I don't know where he got it from but suspect he bought it new when he moved out in 2005, which lives in the adult living room. When all is as it should be, this has the PVR so can watch freeview and anything previously recorded from freeview.
2) A slightly smaller and even older CRT TV that I was given by a friend about 5 or 6 years ago when they upgraded to flatscreen, which lives in the kids' playroom. When all is as it should be, this has the BT box so can watch and record freeview and also watch on demand and limited amounts of catchup. It also has the wii and the elderly playstation.
All is currently not as it should be, though, because I still haven't done anything about the PVR aerial socket breaking, so the BT box is back in the adult living room and DD is in there all the time using it and messing my room up.
I don't have any TVs in bedrooms, but I can watch stuff on my laptop in my bedroom if I want to. DD also has a laptop, although it mostly stays downstairs, and DS's desktop is downstairs, although he may be switching to having it upstairs soon.Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.0 -

these are such difficult decisions and I often wonder how parents balance them...I 'm not sure I could.
I find the thought much harder than many other of the questions I see or hear discussed by parents here and I don't think in real life any people I know have ever wondered about the decision, either not worried about it or not considered it a possibility.0 -
I worry about it - currently I have gone for 'white listing' so only certain websites are permitted, I'm torn between controlling access and wanting to make sure the kids are PC literate.I think....0

Well, exactly.
And while the internet is a lot less safe than books, no one actually knew what I was reading at lydias ds 's age, either. So a lot of perceived protection was simply perceived.
I hadn't heard of white listing. What an excellent idea. I like that very much.0 -
Haven't bought TVs in years. All our TVs are CRTs. Kitchen front and back rooms and three bedrooms. Various freeview boxes upstairs, and cable points in the ground floor rooms apart from the kitchen.
Our big Xmas present to each other was to get an aerial fitter in to put an aerial in the attic.
Last thing I watched was Breaking Bad but not on the telly.:)

I think the really interestingk thing about tv and Jamie oliver in the news and the fury is that no one actually ha to buy a tv. CRT tv's are on free to collect ( or what ever) all the time. The only reason we replaced the big CRT we were given was th at we have to shuffle furniture a lot, and the very big CRT was really heavy plus I dislike big tvs.0 -

I wasn't planning to buy another TV but wanted one for the spare room after the one in there started switching itself off on a whim. Managed to get one in last year's Amazon Black Friday sale. If they do it again this year they had some absolute bargains. Ours was a 19" LED TV (this is the one I referred to earlier that I can plug broadband into). It was £69 IIRC.Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? Like lir, I hadn't heard of that either and sounds brilliant. How do you go about setting it up? White listing is great when they're really little, but too limiting when they're nearly 13. It's difficult.Do you know anyone who's bereaved? You two seem to have a really good open relationship though.
I think my dilemma in your shoes (were one lucky enough to have that, and I think it's quite rare) is how much one tests it, and how much one accepts they make their own mistakes and how much one protects. I just don't know.
How much limiting, for example, do boarding schools put on, and is that done partly pn the sort of basis thaty more is probably allowed in a huge percentage of homes so its safest without being totally north Korea style limiting because their is scope for exploration at home.
Or public libraries? What is the the sort of limit in them...becUse of you limit at home but let your kid go to a library and they can do more there, what is the point....
Lydia....at least you are obviously doing a wonderful job. Your kids are some of the lovliest I know. So obviously your decisions pan out great. It just made me think, I'm not sure I could make those calls. It's too scary.0
