We have a TV in the front room and one in each of the bedrooms.

The front room TV is a 32 inch flat screen one (circa 2007), the one in my bedroom is a 14 inch old style CRT (circa 2005 ish) that doesn't work, in the bedroom the two eldest share, they have a 32 inch old CRT (circa 2002) and youngest has a 22 inch flat screen (circa 2012 and an absolute steal of a price, less than £70) which was supposed to be mine to replace my broken one but as I rarely watch the television in the bedroom, decided he could have it (it had sat there for a year in the box!)
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.

Silly question :) how many people have more than 1 tv per couple? we have one and the SS's have to share when they get here and it annoys them. But I don't like the idea of having more than 1 tv in the living room, which makes me terribly old fashioned I think :o

Funny this topic should come up as we are having the telly debate at the moment.
We have created a Screen Room that has the Sky, big sofa and beanbags and that's it. I figured that this should be only telly in the house apart from one DD room which just has freeview.

But OH and her have been making noises about one in the lounge adjoining the kitchen...and I can't see why we need it at all. She says it's because she doesn't like being holed up in her room if she wants to watch something or has a mate round and they want to watch something like X Factor together. I can understand that.....but all have agreed to wait and see once all the work is done. There will be another living room too whose use is, as yet, unconfirmed.

I allow myself one 'junk' series at a time. Just finished CBB and will have a rest for a few weeks. I can only watch on catch up too as the ads drive me senseless so I was always a day behind.
    The one before was Apprentice.

I have to decide which AW13 reality show I watch next. X Factor once it hits bootcamp or one of the dancing shows. Or I may catch up on Dragons Den which OH recorded for me.,

However, DD has decided that there is just too much telly in the world for her to watch and has had to decide what to record as she couldn't fit it all in. I think she has restrictd herself to Kardashians, Towie (when it's on) and Geordie Shore plus special films.

Our main TV is a wide-screen CRT that I would not recommend any NP ever try to pick up or carry. CRT TVs were never easy to move but the bigger ones now---!

Anyhoo, if any NPs have headphones they might try listening to this 10 minute ditty in the background.

Don't look at the video or the title but just see if you like it. Enjoy (I hope).

I don't watch Dragons Den but DD1 had to draw and describe a dragon for her homework this week and she went with my suggested name of Bannatyne although she doesn't know why this is a good name for a Dragon, I wonder if her teacher will appreciate it?

If I go for a new line to avoid service transfer angst then I can't keep my number so it looks like i will have to go for changing on the current line - if I disappear in a few weeks you will know why.
    I think....

I've got a large CRT in the lounge, which must be 10-12 years old but its sound is so much better than these thin screened TVs. I've got a thin 14" (cast-off from parents) in the spare bedroom, which is only connected to a video player - no aerial in there. I've also got a big thin screen one (another cast-off) for when the CRT dies ... And an ancient 20" in my bedroom connected to an audio visual sender next to the main TV, but the aerial for it has broken so needs mending ...

As for the commute question, I'm about 18 mins walk / 7 mins cycle from work at present, and used to be a bit further than that from the train station when I formerly commuted. The journey was about 1 h 20 mins from door to door, but I didn't actually mind it at all; could snooze on the train. I had a decent rucksack in the basket, a pair of fairly cheap but waterproof (Peter Storm I think) overtrousers and a good waterproof jacket, and didn't often feel wet.

I'm meeting some American friends and their parents in London on Sunday. They will have flown in that day so will be tired. We're looking for somewhere we can get a nice meal. When I go out with my friends we tend to eat food from around the world, but the parents are more meat and potato types. Need to find somewhere that will cater for that around the Victoria area. For good measure, I'm a veggie. Any recommendations? We're planning to eat early - about 5pm.

You two seem to have a really good open relationship though.

I think my dilemma in your shoes (were one lucky enough to have that, and I think it's quite rare) is how much one tests it, and how much one accepts they make their own mistakes and how much one protects. I just don't know.

How much limiting, for example, do boarding schools put on, and is that done partly pn the sort of basis thaty more is probably allowed in a huge percentage of homes so its safest without being totally north Korea style limiting because their is scope for exploration at home.

Or public libraries? What is the the sort of limit in them...becUse of you limit at home but let your kid go to a library and they can do more there, what is the point....

Lydia....at least you are obviously doing a wonderful job. Your kids are some of the lovliest I know. So obviously your decisions pan out great. It just made me think, I'm not sure I could make those calls. It's too scary.

Thank you again for the encouragement and affirmation. Boarding schools have filters on their internet provision, just like day schools. It's quite frustrating sometimes. I remember it blocked me from getting access to a site giving technical specs of domestic gas cookers because it said it was p0rn - no idea how it got that idea. The biology department have to have special arrangements to get access to the stuff they need.

In the end, though, kids will work round these things if they really want to. You have to try to bring them up to choose not to. Which is difficult.

I find not owning a telly quite impressive.

TV-less people don't half seem to get stuff done!

My parents only got one when my mum became bed-bound, and even then they hardly ever watched it. My dad rarely watches it now. And yet, all their lives they were people who got stuff done.
PCs/kids - you're supposed to have the PC in the living room where you can see what they get up to until they're about 16.... on the other hand, they all have smartphones or access to smartphones and the PCs of friends where there are no controls. So you're only in control in one room of your house in the whole world.

Mobile phones on most networks have "adult" content blocked by the network. You have to prove you're over 18 to unblock it, apparently. Virgin doesn't though, so concerned parents might want to make sure their kids' phones are on one of the networks that does. (See here for details.)

Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.

We have one TV in the house, so you're less old fashioned than us.

snap. we used to have a second one (old CRT) in our bedroom but i got fed up of it being in there as we ended up not getting up on weekend mornings, so i put it out on the street and it was gone within 5 minutes.

The commuting is the main reason we live in one of the closest houses to the station. if i'm running, I can get from house to platform in 3 minutes :D

But are you likely to stay where you are? Friend in richmond had job in london bridge which made commute perfect then had to move to swiss cottage (Secondment) and now new job is in farringdon so horrendous commute as it involves changes in rush hour no matter which way you look.

i've spent the last 5-6 years living in places which are about 5 mins from the station. i can make the train from the current place in about 4 minutes if i run, and i always have to run because i am always late.

i'm fairly confident that waterloo will always be a decent commuting hub for me as even if i do move jobs the chance of me working for any employer which isn't based in either bank or canary wharf is about 0.
