Ah, Great British Bake Off, you are balm to a fevered soul (or some such lyrical stuff)0

I'm impressed that someone dyslexic can hold down a job as a barrister. Very impressed.
And astonished. It's rather like hearing that Fred Dibnah had vertigo.
I'm not. No discredit to NDG, mind you. Who is impressive in many ways, and knows I am awed by her. But There are many successful dyslexics. Also, skills such as memory that dyslexics often developed as a "survival' tool are really useful, and also, verbal skills, which often 'compensate' are obviously well suited to the most 'seen' part of the job. It IS important though, that young dyslexics know that they have role models in these sort of jobs, and the sort of commitment that is needed. One of the thing that always worries me is the extra time in exams issue, because in reality, one cannot squeeze more hours into the day. Many perfectly wonderfully intelligent dyslexics function in pretty awesome jobs though.0 -
DS4 took the train back to Edinburgh. He took with him:
An enormous suitcase on 3 wheels (it had 4 but he broke one off).
2 Large bin bags full of stuff
Rucksack
Duvet innabox
Laptop bag
There was more, but I've forgotten. He looked like a refugee. Part of the problem is that it's cheaper to shop in our larder. No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0 -

NDGs OH's headmaster subsequently became headmaster to my DS2 (different schools). Is that 5 steps?I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. My most tenuous link is that I had to study the work of a close rel of an NP for my first degree. Later down the line (and in a more private arena) that led to "do you know xxx?" "yes, they are my xxx", to which I think my response was for my jaw to drop before saying wow. Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? Sometimes its good to get there under your own steam.
I decided a taxi from the station was in order yesterday (had walked quite far enough for one week, incl. possibly about 2 miles just to get from campsite to shuttle bus to ferry 1st thing in the morning) - the taxi driver said that I must be very strong when I declined his offer to help me with my bags to the front door. I should have told him how far I'd managed to travel that day!0
