I made the most amazing thing I am proud of to this day that my father took to the tip and I still haven't quite for given him.
Aged 11-12 the school I was at then had pottery. I made three VERY wonky and cr4p pieces. One was a clunky cream jug, it was a mess of finger/thumb imprints and no part of it were flat or straight or even. I also made a "money box" by making two fat "cups" then joining them wonkily together, cutting a slot out of one and and sticking 2-3 round blobs on the outside.

They were a cause for hilarity at every opportunity in our house. Mocked/laughed at ..... then during my parents' last move they mysteriously disappeared .... no doubt "the tip" :(

They were awful - but I'd made them!

I'd have loved to have done proper pottery .... school I moved to didn't do it though.

They sound fab to me! Especially the jug. I'd love a thumb print jug of a child of mine, Do you think I could get kiwi or mauve squeaker to make me one? No, thought not. :(

I received an apologetic email this afternoon from a contractor I have been dealing with on the heating drama this summer. No progress, but apologies. Anyway the point of this post is, it was written to me as MR RATES. This has not boosted my self esteem one bit. I am feeling especially bloated and hormonal (at about the worst time possible, I have plans this weekend and could have done without that.) and now I am MR too?

    Great.

Whenever DKs suggest we get a rabbit or Guniea Pig I always say the problem is the amount of preparation required is disproportionate for the amount of meat you get...I am not a pet person.

I'd very much like to have a cat - we did have a pair of brothers I rescued as abandoned 5 week old kittens, but when Elijah died at the age of 3, we relocated Yossie to my parents' house in Kent. Keeping a pair of cats together indoors seemed OK, keeping one by himself indoors seemed mean. He adapted massively well to the outside life, and adores rural Kent - he is the scourge of the local rodent population, but being pure white, seems to be spotted easily by birds.

He catches a lot of mice and rabbits, though, and the occasional squirrel.

At Easter he dragged a recently-killed rabbit in through the open kitchen window in Kent, and settled down to munch on it - Isaac said, "he's so cute!" which seemed a slightly odd reaction, to me. Yossie eats some of the rabbit, adn the dogs then share the rest (they have no pride at all).

  • There was no cdt at my secondary. There was home economics ( for wife training' or woman who does it all training. ). I did cdt in a prep for a year though. I loved it. I made the most amazing thing I am proud of to this day that my father took to the tip and I still haven't quite for given him.

    What was it?

The "no traditional feminine stuff" was at the London day school I went to - the boarding school I attended for two years before that had pottery (with wheels, etc), cooking and sewing, and you did a term of each per year. I enjoyed all of those, too.

At bowls the other day, noticed that the blackberry bush was bursting.
Took a little tub. Filled it. The started on a carrier bag.

Made a delicious blackberry crumble last night. Lovely! Plus very MSE with the scrumping!

Isaac and I are going to Kent for the weekend (my Dad's coming back from Rwanda on Friday, he's been there a week or so) and my mother's already given me notice that we are to be considered slave labour for the weekend - apples, tomatoes, 3 types of beans, carrots, 4 types of squashes, corgettes, pears, plums, crab apples, medlars, sloes, blackberries, blueberries and rose hips all demand our attention. In return, we get bed and board, apparently.

    Apols, no offence meant.

Don't apologise! I'm dyslexic, which isn't a trump card for never being corrected.

I grew up being corrected by both parents, and I'm entirely used to it (-:

Don't take it personally, LIR - it's just a mistake. Nothing to do with you yourself.

Don't forget, I've met you now - no women so good looking and glamourous could ever actually be thought anything other than female.

    What are your weekend plans?

I've PM-ed you, by the way.

Is there any way of suppressing/ignoring a particular post on this page, so I don't see a particular picture ever again?

No pack drill, but you know what I'm talking about NDG.
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?

Shall I delete demon cat and his half-eaten rabbit? Looking on the bright side, it's not as bad as Michael's extraordinary leather men's pants he linked to once......

Dad calls him Pol Puss, or Chairman Miouw.

the colour selector thing is being funny... It was aharp. It had a sound box and every thing. Everyone else made guitars out of biscuit tins and plastic bands, or maracas out of yoghurt pots or something, but I actually did stuff with wood. I used a stair post thingy for one side, a plain bit for the top, then a sound box, then spoke sweetly to the supplies teacher at my other school and got strings and strung the beggar.

[COLOR="rgb(153, 50, 204)"]Can you ask your mother what medlar variety she has? I'm considering buying one this year, an Iranian. I've never actually had a medlar so don't really know what I'm looking for but these are rated really highly in flavour, just a bit hit and Mi's with crop I think. I'm also buying two quince this year. I think I'm buying a Meech's prolific and an Iranian (sense a theme) quince, But I might buy a Portuguese quince. I'd buy three, but really, even for me (I love quince) that's a lot. I'd get just the Portuguese and Iranian (best flavours and textures) but they are iffy choppers, where as the Meech's is a reliable cropper. And really pretty. Its just a bit gritty

No one should have to apologise in the NP thread....ever. Especially for being who they are.....dyslexic, thumbprint pottery makers, whatever.
