Do you tell someone you love them

For 8 years I have loved someone, they are a good friend and we get on really well. they are on their own now and have been for a while and i am too. we joke that we hate each other and we laugh about times we have had together. i am nearly 60 now and too old to play games i think but i am so scared that i will wreck the friendship so i will probably never tell them that i love them. i also live with a friend who they might think was a partner but they arent and never were. anyway have you ever told someone you loved them when you werent together? when you werent in a relationship? how did it work out?

I haven't said it to anyone I wasn't already with but I do think you should.. Why be alone if you can be with this person ? Take the risk and if it doesn't work out better to know then to always wonder.
You could have the rest of your life with this person so be brave.

I always tell people I love them when I do. However, not everyone is comfortable hearing it.

The best three words in the whole wide world for me are 'I love you'.

I could give you a hundred reasons to tell them but I'll just leave these three words which sum it all up perfectly.

    Life's too short.

Just tell them, wouldn't the world be better if we were open about our feelings!?

Life is too short, do it now before it's too late otherwise you may regret never finding out.

Your use of "friend" just referring to them as "them" (rather than him/her) and the set-up with the live-in friend-who-has-been-assumed-to-be-partner makes me wonder if you're the right gender and sexuality for this friend to have as a partner.

However, if you're both straight, or both gay I'd say it would be worth carefully letting them know you have deeper feelings for them. Coming straight out with "I love you" may seem a bit of a shock, though!

Are they that good a friend if they don't know that the person you live with is a friend and not a partner - after 8 years?

If it's a relationship you're looking for, I wouldn't go in with "I Love You" as an opener - they could run for the hills!

How about something a little more subtle to begin with. Start seeing them a little more and a little more intimately.

Rather than telling a friend that I was in love with them, I would tell them how important they were to me. Things can and do develop between friends. You don't have to go in with a hacksaw!
