The best bits are the take off and landing.

I just love that shove in the back on take off. :p

Totally agree, same with me. But it must be a nightmare if you hate flying!

I hate the way airlines can just change what they offered before they took your money. What other industry would get away with this? :D

I have to agree with this. We booked flights to Australia with Singapore Airlines at the beginning of the year and since then it been like musical chairs with them moving our pre-booked seats all over the planes... and back again.

If someone told me I'd have to endure an extra take off and landing, after I'd booked a [non-stop] flight specifically because I couldn't handle the take off and landing and didn't want to do it more than once, I'd be as well chucking myself out the nearest window.

I hadn't thought of this but this would be my MIL...she would be devestated to learn of a stop - and I changed your post to read non-stop instead of direct since that's causing so much ire.

If the OP's son got back earlier than scheduled then I agree, what's the concern...and while I don't think that compensation would be justified even if they had a short delay...I still maintain that I would be annoyed if I booked a non-stop flight at an extra cost and they threw in a stop at the last minute...if I paid extra to fly without touching down at some interim destination I would feel a bit cheated if I did...but again, if there was no delay in our arrival then my annoyance would be mitigated and I certainly would not be asking for compensation.

Let's remember I think that the existing delay compensation is ridiculous anyway...I'd not advocate more circumstances where compensation was due.
Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?
