Empty flight .. Unsheduled stop over to pick up passengers.

Hi all ,

I wonder if anyone could give me some advice please .

My son & his GF are waiting to board a flight at Dalaman airport.

On arrival they were notified that their flight will now land at Gatwick to pick up passengers for the onward trip to Glasgow .

The reason given is that the return flight has very few passengers .

My question is do they have any recourse as they booked direct flights from Dalaman to Glasgow ?

I'm guessing its all down to the T&C but any advice would be welcome .

Thank you .

how much later will they arrive in Glasgow? If over 3 hours they may qualify for compensation (if under 3 hours probably nothing)
  • Technically they are still on a direct flight, they will not have to leave the plane at LGW. As Caz3121 notes, they may be entitled to compensation if their flight is delayed over 3 hours, but stop offs like this rarely take more than an hour.

They're not getting off at Gatwick, therefore it's a direct flight, no compo due unless it results in a delay of over 3 hrs.

Thanks for the replies everyone .

I don't think he'll be too long at Gatwick .
I've told him that he will just have to put up with the inconvenience . It's a bit of a pain but hey ho the joys of travel .:D

    Thanks again .

As above, direct flight doesn't necessarily mean non stop. If the flight number doesn't change, it is a direct flight.

What was the airline? that sounds like an outbound flight and an inbound flight

Did the flight number change at Gatwick or Dalaman?

Even so, if they' didn't get off the plane, only stopping to pick up more passengers, it was still a direct flight.

What are they expecting, some sort of compensation for having to stop? The alternative would be that the airline would cancel the flight entirely and shift them into another.

This country is going compensation mad, I tell ya.

For all the advances in travel and technology, the world seems so intolerant these days. So much complaining and compo seeking for such trivial matters.

I smell someone else wanting compo for the slightest thing.
The common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better.
