    Another question:
I've been told that the Apps on the Apple App Store are 'safer' than Apps for Android because they're all 'approved by Apple', whereas any Tom, !!!!!! or Harry can make an Android App and they could potentially be more dodgy.

Any truth to this? Or is it just Apple 'marketing' ?

No idea but most apps have reviews you can read before downloading. My Mum has an Android phone and only made a mistake once in downloading something she wasn't happy with so deleted it.

We were on holiday in US together in May and for the first time with no laptop, only ipads and mobile phones operated always on wifi, worked really well.

I had all emails that might be needed such as confirmation of bookings etc, access to looking at what we might want to do while there and the ability to book online, was able to book in online with BA for our return flight and able to book an appointment at the Apple Store when my Mum dropped her ipad and broke the screen :( They replaced the ipad cheaper than it would have cost here, backed up everything and restored to the new ipad and Mum claimed on her travel insurance when we got home.

Less weight to carry in hand luggage with no large battery pack and we both had stuff we had downloaded on bbc iplayer to watch on the plane, preferable to watching the seat back tvs, that and the kindle app with a choice of books to read by the pool.

Thanks for your reply, all really helpful

Re BA online check-in, this is something I was looking at but their website seemed to indicate that downloading boarding passes could only be done via iPhone, not iPad and only one per device?

That's somewhat true, but I think that on Android if you stick to the Google Play store and use a bit of common sense you'll be fine.

I see the Nexus 7 has a micro-usb port - could I use a micro-usb to USB adaptor to expand storage using, for example, a USB memory stick?

You can't use just any micro-usb to USB cable, to use a USB stick with the Nexus 7, its needs to be a OTG one (can get them cheap from ebay / amazon etc) Think you'll also need a (free) app in order to copy / access data on the stick, don't think you can copy to the stick either (unless you root the Nexus, which is probably not recommend for everyone)

For the record I had a iPad for the last few years, I sold it recently to go just Android on phone and table (N7/N10). My me it was the ease of getting content on/off the Android devices that swayed me
