to be honest it seems the car dealerships are so quiet most of the time that you cant afford to waste some time on non-serious buyers.
The buyer was absolutely ridiculous. He mentioned "I have positive equity" . I assumed he paid off most of it. He had to call the finance company and work out that he's only paid 1 grand!! haha.
The programme mentioned he has a good job. Clearly not.
The ex window fitter did come across cold and non engaging. I think when customers deal with him they're thinking with their sensible hat and only care about numbers. He'll only get a sale if he can throw an unbelievably good offer.
The other guy was a lot more personal able, he made every car purchase an exciting process. You can tell that a lot of people might pay more than they need to but still walk away with a smile on their face.0 -
Ahhh, so you're one of those people that 'count' interest in how much you paid for a car? I've never understood that, but anyways.
It's always going to cost more to borrow money for 12 months longer - the people must have been putting in some amount of deposit (I think £500 was mentioned) as the payments don't stack up otherwise. Quite often the rate goes up when you exceed 48 months too.
An additional saving of just £245 is never going to cancel an extra year out, if that makes sense.
Loan through Sainsburys Bank on a £7k loan:
Monthly repayment£214.85
Total repayable£7,734.60
Representative APR6.8%
So what is the point in going through the dealers finance company? Obviously the dealers want you to so that they get their commission.0 -

What makes you say that?
He bought a 20k car last year.

He was just trying on the 'stick to your guns' method. But he was undermined by his wife (in front of the dealer).0 -
It was the dealers emotional blackmail that did it for me, if any sales guy in any field did that to me that would firmly zip and padlock my wallet faster than the speed of light0

The window guy seemed to have read the script, but had no clue on how to act. When you have a family in front of you (including the real decision maker!) looking for a middling car and you don't land a punch, you have no future in the business. Good car sales are about selling, he wanted to be an order taker.0

Agreed.
I go in with an amount I want to pay (reasonable -- generally within 10% of the asking price). If they won't budge, and the car isn't worth what they're asking in my view, they get a piece of paper with my phone number and I leave. No point in wasting the guy's time if we can't agree.0 -

That's how many sales staff operate, in many different retail professions. You only have to visit any large retail park to realise this.
The best way to combat this is to research the subject first.0 -
