You can't help those who won't help themselves. :(

I would really advise her not to touch her overdraft while she has no income coming in to the account, the bank can and will pull the overdraft if they suspect that is what she is doing, they will then demand payment within a fairly short time frame usually 30 days but 7 days is not unheard of, if she can't repay she will end up with a trashed credit file and debt collectors looking for payment.

These things could affect her future for many years, some jobs require a credit check and in the above scenario her chances would be affected.

The best thing she can do is to apply for JSA to help until she is employed she really does not want to be relying on an overdraft.

    thanks for your kind words.

She do know all of these, she is quite mature for her age indeed.

    You have the following options:

    1. You tell the council that she is living with you as a non dependent but has no income. They will ask for proof so you can show them her bank statements and tell them that she is living on savings/overdrafts.

This will be complicated as they are not used to this scenario so it may take some time to sort out.

At the moment they have suspended the council tax support because they feel that you have not notified them of a change of circumstances.

If you do not contact them they will assume that she is earning money/giving you money for her 'board' and will deduct the highest rate for non dependents from your council tax.

    2. You prove that your daughter lives somewhere else. From what you are saying you have no proof so this seems not to be an option unless she has some written evidence that you haven't mentioned.

    3. Your daughter signs on for income based Job Seekers Allowance and they will not make a deduction from your Council Tax. (I think this is common to all councils - if not it will only be a small deduction)

What is extremely important is that you contact the council and talk to them about your situation. They should be able to tell you what evidence they need for the first 2 options.

One other thing, you will also need to contact the council if you receive Housing Benefit as they need to know about any non dependents. Otherwise it is likely that you will receive a similar letter about your HB.

You're being very defensive when all anyone is doing is trying to help your daughter, and yourself by trying to make you look long term.

She might regret her 'pride thing' when the bank removes her overdraft/when it's no longer interest free. The help is there for her, and not only is she getting herself into more debt than necessary she is also causing you problems by not taking it.

You never know, they may actually be able to help her find a job too.

thanks for your post, if you really reading my note,I keep thanking people posting. Maybe you prefer their saying and then you image I am not grateful.

Please I am not argue job center would helping out to look for job but if you read this forum more, you might have more understand how such things work.

I don't want to post my wording about that topic as I worry being label again for ' not appreciate the help' or anything like that.

My final words : I do thanks all the post here and everyone could read through my post to confirm that.

and again, may i repeat again she has a little saving and she doesn't spend so she plan to see if she could find a job in next 6 months and she is mature enough to know about the danger of overdraft and possibly withdrawn overdraft. The overdraft is there for her to fall back if needed.

Sorry but it looks like your daughter is staying with you and you are then responsible for paying full CT.

If your DD is prepared to claim JSA you might be able to get a small reduction in the total CT you have to pay, but I am not too sure on that.

You would be better asking your DD to sign on and then she might be able to give you money towards your full CT bill.

    thanks for your advice.

to my understand, if she sign on. I don't need to pay full council tax but a new partial one.

if she find a job and we would have to pay full and I know she would help me pay me pay for all of it as I couldn't afford with it with my job seeker allowance.

    Thanks for your advice again

brown123, I understand you are not a fan of the Jobcentre, but are you aware they can refer you to agencies that can help with your English skills? This could benefit you greatly when seeking work.
