Yeah after all the stories on here, I'm going to make a military-style checklist when we go away!

My OH forgot his suit for a wedding once. We drove up the night before (about 3 hours away).

Whilst he was in the bath he said can you get my suit out of the (suit) bag please. It wasn't in the room so I check the car...no where to been seen! Cue a quick trip to the Tesco across the road to buy a suit, shirt and tie...luckily for him suits off the shelf look nice on him and they had his size! I was not happy about having to buy him a new suit

We get home and his suit is lying on the bed still!

Good morning all...well we've survived the first night...and still laughing about it!

A quick visit yesterday afternoon to the local shops provided the essentials and probably today I'll fit in a bit of retail therapy.
Tomorrow evening we are booked in at a rather nice resturant so I do feel that perhaps my shorts and t shirt might look a little out of place.
If anything its the lack of make up thats making me feel most naked of all...here am I staying in a rather nice country house hotel and not a bit of lippy in sight!!!

I'm usually quite an organised person so is my husband and we just cant see how we both missed picking up the case.
I did wonder about asking my friend to pop round and try and send it on to us,but realistically we probably wouldn't get it until tomorrow and at that point we will be over the worst.

I have to also admit that I'm the type of person that when I go away I do like a bit of pampering...I'm not a natural camper so its never appealed to me to get at one with nature, but if thats what you enjoy then I wouldnt knock it...but for me the need to have a plug for my hairdryer and electric toothbrush is pretty high on my list of requirements...so what started as a chance to spend some well deserved quality time with my husband has turned out a little more rustic and challenging than we invisaged...possibly in summary, taking a holiday out of my comfort zone!

I will quite happily go on holiday to a remote place without a second thought for tv mobiles, laptops, ipads etc...but ask me not to take my makeup and I feel as if I'm not complete...now here I am with the complete opposite..practically every gadget I own and no clean undies.
....but we are determined to enjoy it and I can honestly say we've not laughed this much in years.

Thanks everyone I've really enjoyed reading all your mishap stories...and dispite the lack of the basics,we really are making the most of it.

When I was a kid we went on holiday and arrived at the destination (UK seaside resort), only for my parents to both think the other had locked up. They managed to get in touch with the neighbours who found our back door not only unlocked, but wide open with the key still in it...

Luckily it was a quiet village and nothing was stolen.

Is there a boots nearby? I'm sure they must sell a budget brand of makeup that you can get, bit of lippy and powder?

there is a boots....but sadly the little compartment in the no7 counter that should have "plum beautiful" is empty...

ive worn the lipstick for years and several times ive tried an alternative, always going back to what I know....ive picked up a bit of a tinted lip gloss type thing which makes me feel as if im wearing something...but it just aint me!!!!

This morning out and about ive also been quite surprised by the lack of nice summer clothes still in the shops...it all seems to be the autumn- winter ranges that have the full complement of stock....I've managed to get a few bits and actually quite a nice dressy dress in a sale, but I now fear that i'll need some lovely dressy shoes to go with it.

Hubby on the other hand managed really well and actually is going to look quite smart as a result of the impromptu shopping trip
