Happy Beds mattresses?

Many thanks for your replies.
It is entirely possible and legal to produce truly all natural mattresses in the UK. The Wool Room sell every size mattress without any chemical added at all and there are other sellers of all natural mattresses for babies and children. The problem for me was that the Wool Room's prices are predictably enormous. Happy Beds claimed (both online in 3 separate communications & then by phone twice, before & after my purchase) that the mattress in question is wholly natural with absolutely no added chemicals. They claimed that they verified this with the mattress makers themselves. So I went ahead and ordered. And the mattress I have smells like it's had about 100 mattress worth of fire retardant sprayed freshly over it before delivery. There's no way that it is chemical free. I guess you get what you pay for. But there is something very wrong about a company publicly advertising something as all natural and without added fire retardant when this is simply not true. That is false and illegal.
I must add that delivery was first rate and very fast and the mattress looks to be excellent quality. It's just been sold under a false description.0 -

If you have received something which isn't as described you can return it. If you used Ebay, you should contact the seller there first. If they don't help or are obstructive, Ebay will allow you to open a case within 30 days of delivery.0 -
Seems like its a good mattress company. The reviews of the mattress are pretty cool and pleasing. Users have liked the comfort and support, the mattress provided. Their Signature Crystal 3000 Pocket Spring Orthopedic mattress has received many good reviews. The mattress is hand made in UK and conforms to the British standards. It has air vents for air circulation and breath-ability. The mattress also allows easy moving and turning. Happy Beds mattresses are designed to work with all bed bases. After all, mattress hopping is a personal matter of choice. The reviews may vary from person to person, as each person has unique sleeping needs and styles.0

Most mattresses are made in the UK.
As for being made to conform to British Standards, I guess you're talking about the fire regulations as I can't see and NBF logo on the Happy Beds website.
Air vents are pointless on mattresses and no feature at all. Fabric is breathable!
All in all your post reads of spam.Helping the country to sleep better....ZZZzzzzzzz0 -
Selecting a mattress, purely depends on personal choice and requirements, especially when you are looking for a budget-friendly mattress. Yeah, the Happy Mattress seems like they are good in delivering restful sleep. And the price, is within your limits. Apart from Happy, one popular brand in the mattress industry, is the Ikea Morgedal. It's high resilience foam gives support for each part of your body. The comfort zones give very precise support. The construction of Ikea is designed in such a way that it relieves pressure on your shoulders and hips. The company offers 25 year limited warranty.0

Actually, air vents are absolutely critical, whilst fabric is breathable, its not effective enough to circulate air or allow proper flow when you move/lie down.

I found several quotes from the company, and they are 100% NOT treated with chemicals, most beds, as with other things, have a 'factory' smell when new, it is fire retardant because it is wool, the same as the wool room products. If the company were to continually lie about chemicals etc they would quickly be in front of trading standards and likely would no longer be NBF approved. Unfortunately, your nose is not calibrated.0 -
I phoned up Happy Beds about exactly this question - whether there is really no fire retardant treatment at all. I asked them if the mattresses were still treated externally with FR chemicals. The (very helpful) chap I spoke with said he'd walk next door to where they are manufactured and ask. He called me back after 10 minutes to confirm that yes, although the fillings are all natural and untreated, the exterior is still sprayed with chemicals to pass fire standards tests. So yes, sounds like some people above have clearly been misled...0

The majority of 'natural' mattress makers are either lying about not using flame retardants or they're not testing to the correct fire laws. Trading Standards are well aware of this but frankly, TS budgets have been slashed so massively in the past few years that they do not have much cash to bring prosecutions and/or to buy an expensive mattress in order to test it. Mattress makers are well aware of this and cheat accordingly. The truth is, it's extremely difficult to get natural cotton through the cover tests; therefore, they will use flame retardants (but tell you they don't) or cheat by, for example, artificially stretching the cotton tight during the test (to push out oxygen). Where fillings are concerned, it's also incredibly difficult to get natural materials through the required tests of the Furniture Regulations; therefore, many mattress makers will tell you that they test to BS7177 because that's the required test. Except that it isn't. As said, fillings must pass the Furniture Regs' test which is carried out on the fillings direct.0
