Happy Beds mattresses?

  • I had the same questions as starryshell regarding Happy Beds. After speaking to them over the phone, I eventually bought a bed and mattress from them.

In all honesty, the items are very good. The prices are super good, as when I spoke to them, they mentioned that they manufacture themselves and can afford to sell them at wholesale prices with no store expenses involved.

I bought from them again recently with no qualms. Starryshell go for it.

Thanks for this. I ended up buying a brand new John Lewis mattress via ebay, it has worked out well.

I'm dithering over buying the signature 1400 from them but waiting for a response to some questions about spec'. It's unclear how much filling they have although the description says it's all natural which seems extraordinary for such a low price. Also whether the springs are full size steel springs. Could you post which mattress you bought from them and what you're liking about it?

  • This is my first post so go easy please lol.

I bought this mattress in aug from Happy beds and am more than pleased with it, good quality, cheap price - SIGNATURE 2000 PILLOWTOP Pocket Sprung Mattress

    Sock puppets?
  • came across this post as was looking at getting a new mattress to replace a crappy memory foam one i bought in September. Purchased the pillowtop 2000 pocket sprung mattress after reading reviews on amazon. I would say its medium to firm, its not soft and i find it quite comfortable. me and my hubby don't roll into each other anymore. Only had it a couple of weeks but will post an update in 6 months but so far so good. And no i'm not a sock puppet.

Will be posting my review on amazon too. Hope this is helpful for anyone else looking at this thread.
  • Hi llollipoppi
Im thinking of buying the same mattress as you bought from Happy Beds, would you be so kind to give another short review please. Im desperate for a new mattress in my price range and this one seems excellent.
    Thank you very much
  • I'd be wary of buying ANY mattress that I wasn't able to at least try by laying on it. My mum always said to me, buy a good quality bed and good quality shoes, because when you're not in one, you're in the other.
  • From an industry insider. Some info about the mattresses under discussion on this thread.
Happy Beds is an online trading company closely affiliated to Bedmaster (One Holdings Ltd), a West Yorkshire manufacturer that makes all of their beds. They are at the lower to middle end of the market but the quality is good for the price and they give value for money. If my budget was in the £2-300 range I would not hesitate in choosing their mattresses over other similarly priced products.
Restus is an old brand name, now owned by Hick Lane Bedding (also known as Kozee Sleep) of Dewsbury, West Yorks. Hick Lane Bedding, like other similar companies, make everything from cheap crap to reasonable quality mid-market mattresses. Restus is at the better end of their range. As well as selling their own branded products Hick Lane manufacture for John Lewis and Next among others. If you have bought a mattress from the low to middle end of the John Lewis range, chances are it will have been made by Hick Lane Bedding. If you buy a more expensive mattress from John Lewis it will more likely be a Harrison or Vi-Spring mattress.
Harrisons and Vi-Spring mattresses are in a different league to the aforementioned brands in terms of spec. They have deeper layers of natural fillings, more sophisticated spring systems, genuine hand stitching, better quality fabrics and components and are manufactured to more exacting standards. Of course this is reflected in the prices. Most Harrison and Vi-Spring mattresses will be priced in the thousands rather than hundreds of pounds.
When buying a mattress you should work out what your budget is and then try and get the best mattress you can within your budget.

What we must remember is that this is a money saving site.

Restus do make a very nice, hand side stitched mattress at a great value for money price.

Vi-Sprung and Harrison are very top end and as such you pay a lot for the name. Think of Rolex, it's all about the brand.

Really a double mattress for a Grand and all it has is 1000 springs and some wool and cotton.

Or for half that price, http://www.time4sleep.co.uk/mattresses/all-mattresses/sleep-sanctuary-crystal-3000-pocket-mattress

3000 springs, cotton, wool and hand side stitching.

Not knocking Camembert, the advice is correct. But it's about value for money.

As Martin would say himself, debt isn't bad, bad debt is bad.
