You just need a SKY id that you can get for free on this page :
http://help.sky.com/my-account/sky-id/create-a-sky-id
Click on the CREATE A SKY ID link. This will create a username and password you can use to sign into the NOWTV box.
Thanks for that much appreciated. Just signed in to nowtv0 -
Thanks to Gleek for the great info in this (and the other) thread. Without the link to the film offer, I would have missed it.
Anyway, for the first and probably last time, I spent some money with Murdoch - the Now TV unit, £15 for 6 months' movies and £10 (I know they say it's £9.99 but to me it's a tenner) for a one day sports pass.
I bought the Now TV primarily for the iPlayer. The movies and sports are extras I will probably do without in the long term. I have no interest in football and regret the day that the ECB sold out and ensured only a minority of UK cricket fans could watch Test cricket.
Some observations:- The Now TV unit is easy to install.
- BBC iPlayer is terrific on a big screen. HD is available.
- Now TV is a heavy user of data - half a day's Test cricket plus some browsing has already used getting on for 4GB
- Sky Sports 2 - or Sky Sports Ashes as it's currently called - is not live but delayed by about half a minute. The Sky commentary is so poor that I listened to Test Match Special on BBC Radio 5 Live Extra using my Formula 1 trick (watch a foreign TV picture and listen on the radio). The delayed Sky picture was not helpful.
- Picture quality on the cricket was not great - jerky during panning shots.
- Fox News is not the Fox News included in the Sky package. This one's a radio stream plus links to recorded extracts, unless I have done something wrong. (But I wouldn't watch Fox News anyway.

Still cant see anyway to just get the "Free" stuff, it just redirects you to a "Sky" package. even the online help dosent know what a "Now" box is. Even spending 1/2 hour on the phone, they insist its movies & sport, pay only packages.0

Iplayer and sky news etc are already preloaded and to the left of the now tv part is the channel store where you can play around with the channels in there.Princess Sparklepants0 -

This box gets the thumbs up from me. My broadband isn't the quickest or most reliable (5-8mb when I've tested it), but iPlayer in HD works a treat and doesn't buffer or lag, which happens when I use my laptop.0
