    Glad to hear about the references - hopefully a chance to make a fresh start.

    What matters in this big bad world is not how you feel about your response but how your responses make other people feel. The world is full of opinionated people who will have their say - and say just whatever they want - regardless of your setting out limitations on how they should respond. Just as elsewhere this forum has its share of them and by letting their comments pass without reference is the best way to take the wind out of their sails, I think!

    Hello - I've followed your thread with interest. Now that the employment reference matter is resolved. I wonder whether you should turn your thoughts to whether you see the prisoner when he leaves prison.

    I'm not asking for a reply but just want to urge you to be careful, especially for the sake of your son's stability.

    You don't really know whether the prisoner wants to go back to his old drink/drugs life and all the chaos & heartbreak that surrounds that lifestyle. He might need a home and persuade you to let him move into yours. He might offer lots of excuses as to why he can't get a job and you'll have to support him. He might ask you to pay off debts or to invest in a new business.

    If you want this man in your life, given that you've risked so much for him already, then at least don't live with him and don't give him money. Wait a year to see that he can build a safe & secure future for himself before you and your child get too involved.

    If he's a decent chap, he'll want to prove he can stand on his own two feet first and he won't take advantage of you.

    Make sensible decisions for you and your son. Good Luck.

    Thanks, I appreciate the concerns, but can assure you he comes from a very stable background, his family have been very welcoming of both me and my son and I have no worries about the future. :)

    I'd thought of several different scenarios here but did not expect it to be that! No judgement from me, these things happen, and you're certainly not the first person to meet someone in less than ideal circumstances.
