All in all 32 (or maybe more cause i lost count.. but it was at least that). Another half mile achieved... yay me!

I used to have that problem all the time, so I bought one of these:

    (got mine off ebay)

It's really quite cool, saves you swimming thinking "1...1.....1....2...2....2" and so on, lets your mind wander whilst still keeping count.

Mine also keeps a record of the fastest, slowest, average length time as well..And you know how I like my data :)

Probably not overly MSE/DFW, but makes my life easier, anyway :D

I wouldn't say Matthew, 24 from Norwich was a child! And the 17/18 year olds are men as far as sports are concerned.

    you are such a gadget-eer!!!

i'm not sure my lowly swims really merit such a device, but interesting to know they exisist...

There are coloured blocks along the top of the pool wall all the way around and i tend to use those as my marker for every 2 lengths, then go back and count them afterwards, it's fine as long as i remember which one i was on last...

My friend swims for an hour and she reckons she does about 75-80 lengths but she doesn't count, she just knows her own pace... must be fast!

i suppose i should just knuckle down and try and improve and then i can say 45 lengths in 45 minutes, but although i try not to, i do sometimes need to stop and catch my breath/adjust my goggles/rearrange my swimsuit or whatever, so that is where the time is lost...

well that and the fact that i am a pants swimmer.... although much improved thanks to recent lessons....

  • Now that I am employed again, I shall be joining the local ladies gym that is on the way home from work. It's a circuit gym thingy and Ive looked into it before. When I was in uni, I love circuit training and the results were so easily measurable. And it's a quick half hour and still be in time to pick up the kids...They also have those 'power plates' there-has anyone tried these?

Its all about getting competitive, either with other people or with times.

There's always another target springs up as soon as you've achieved. So when you break 60 mins for 10K you immediately start thinking about 55 mins, then 50 mins and so on.

Or pick someone you know who you think you could never be as fast as and measure the difference as you 'close in' on that standard.

You never get to the end of such challenges, so unlike focussing on weight loss which is not really the target anyway (its really body shape!) you get to love the process and want it to continue.

this is kinda how i am trying to view things, having never been a skinny person i don't actually have that perspective of something to get back to/aim for....

i am merely hoping to continue running in a bid to stay/get healthy,
i want to get somewhere midpack with the running club and not be last every week.
I want Erin to see exercise as something normal that is part of life, and not a chore.... other than PE i don't think i ever did any formal exercise until adulthood...
and i hope to lose some weight in the process....... (have i just cotradicted myself there? Hmmmmn!)
I'm just a seething mass of contradictions....
