It doesn't really matter how quickly you progress does it? As long as you are progressing a little, and enjoying it?
Precisely the attitude...In fact, I'd argue that enjoying it is more important than the progress, which I view almost as a byproduct...If you enjoy exercising, you'll do it more, if you do it more, you'll make more progress, if you make more progress you'll enjoy it more and so on...
Most important thing is just to keep happy and healthy0 -
Maz - Thats two big achievements in a week. Not only have you done two really good sessions you've obviously recovered well in between too which is another sure sign of progress. 4 miles will certainly come but wait until you're really itching to do it - that will be your body saying 'Yeah, Maz - let's go for it!'. Brilliant news.
Snags/Idio - Absolutely spot on. Just enjoy each session and don't worry about progress. Otherwise what's the point? You may as well find something else that you do enjoy. The irony is that the less you TRY to progress the more you actually do, because you work within the limits of what your body wants to do.

Sal - i think you are amazing thinking about doing 6 miles at the weekend, maybe worth planning on doing 4 miles and then if you feel well enough doing 6 is a bonus!
I can't wait to break my 4miles! i am already planning 4 mile routes on mapmyrun.co.uk
Hi Maz, I used to run my route and then work out how far I had run....I surprised myself one day by realising I had actually run over 4 miles. I find that my mind works the opposite way, if I know I have to do 4 miles I think I can't do it..
As to running for ages without stopping, I am not sure I intend to ever do that:rotfl:
As to my running, this cold has knocked me back a bit and I haven't been running at all this week, as soon as i start to run I start to cough and its really begining to get on my nerves!Quality is doing something right when no one is looking - Henry Ford

Morning All
Quick pop in to say I am feeling much better (just the cough to deal with) so hoping that I might be able to run tomorrow.
Maz you are probably right I think I will do my 5 mile route and if I feel good I can add an extra 2 mile loop on (yes I know that makes it 7 rather than the 6 I said originally)I'll make a wish, take a chance, make a change And breakaway. I'll take a risk, take a chance, make a change and breakaway ....

Sally,
Thats good news- back in the land of the living before you know it, but don't rush it.
PS Totally Off Topic - But why are there so many rumours that Gazza has died? The police have released a statement saying that as far as they know he didn't die last night but don't know where he is (strange statement to release!). But various forums are full of it. Sky say they have no confirmation of it. All a bit odd - anyone know anything else?Gt NW 1/2 Marathon 21/2/2010 (Target=1:22:59) (6:20/mile) 1:22:47 (6:19):j:j

Make the hard days hard and the easy days easy – Jon Brown, UK 10,000metres recordholder and twice 4th in the Olympic Marathon. In many groups the harder structured sessions can fall slightly short of reaping the full intended benefits, whilst the supposed recovery running may be done too fast to really enable effective recovery, thus runners can get into a cycle of too much ‘middling’ effort running.
Too many runners don’t do longer repetition running with short recoveries – Paula Radcliffe, world record holder and world champion at the marathon. For many runners, ‘speedwork’ is not carried out in a suitable structure particularly if they are training for races of 10k and longer. The trend is often that the faster running is too fast and the recovery period too long to really make the most suitable training for their target races.
Now these are quotes from the UKs fastest Male marathon runner and the UKs (and world's) fastest female marathon runner. These are the people to listen to!!
