You think I could do it in a good time? What time would you say is realistic to a plodder like myself?? Iwould really love to become a fast runner :rotfl:

Im not normally a !!!!!! kind of person but It really took me by suprise and overwhelmed me into saying it. Please re-boot and install Lady Program to your computer and service will be resumed into polite conversation again ;)

You're not a plodder - you've just completed a continuous half marathon on what, in reality, was minimal training.

By working on the distance and speed as per the plan you could realistically aim for a 4-30 target, which will probably blow your mind right now because thats 2 back to back 2hr 15mins half marathons.

But 30 weeks is a long time. To get to 4-30 it would mean roughly a 2-05 half marathon along the way. Early improvements come in big chunks though so you might be surprised what you can achieve if you want to!

    Whatever do you mean? ;)

We've missed you by the way - how was Liverpool? Lots of empty houses when I was there a few weeks ago!

PS Its nice to see the Big M (shhhh) target has survived a few days of mulling over - you must be up for it!

Dont want to cause a scandal by posting my views of Liverpool.

Yep the M target is on baby - now we need to find me one please...NY is my favoured, but I would have to raise money which I dont like the idea of...any suggestions guys?

Bless you...but you are right in saying I did minimal training in terms of no more than 15-17 miles a week. But I still have fresh in my mind how hard the last 4 miles were and the next one I want to be able to come across the line with power in my legs and feeling fresh!

so a 4-30 marathon is just over 10 min mile? Correct? that seems doable I guess.
When would you suggest another half between now and April? Jan time?
I'll make a wish, take a chance, make a change And breakaway. I'll take a risk, take a chance, make a change and breakaway ....

Yep I agree Liverpool best forgotten.

Why do feel you would have to raise money? Thats only necessary if you're entered through a charity place.

You soon get fed up of raising money (or at least the people you're trying to get to sponsor soon get fed up of raising money). But its so incredibly time consuming as well.

Ultimately, if you enter plenty races part of all your entry fees are going to charity anyway so you're doing your bit. At least thats my excuse.

    You could try this:

(But if you do I will then know you're insane!!:p)

or, around October next year an ideal first marathon would be Amsterdam, 25,000 runners and flat as a pancake! (I'll come and hold your coat :p)

I think a charity place would be the only way to get into NY though...I'll check with NY friend in Jan - I'm sure he got in via the 9 qualifying races, but obviously that wouldn't be possible for me.

Ur no way - I am not that mad!

Amsterdam sounds good - I like it there too, Nemo is the best museum ever! Plus no long flight nor jet lag all good :T. I'll have a think about that - and go google the entry requirements...

You struggled in the last 4 miles, not surprisingly, because the glycogen in your muscles wasn't 'readily available'. Your body was slowing down to try to match the slow delivery of fuel. This is what training runs of 4+ miles work on.

I wouldn't do another half for a while yet - concentrate on building the stamina and energy reserves. You've experienced the half now so you understand the task, next time you'll be more prepared with training runs beyond race distance and speedwork built into training. Instead of doing lots of races look at maybe targetting two, firstly, 2-15 and then 2-05.
