DFW Running Club!!

It does but its where you follow a trail with a group of people to the pub...its good apparently!
The trail is an irrelevance.
It's all about forming a drinking club with a running problem.
IOM Festival:
Friday Evening
5 mile road race on TT course (straight off ferry - that's a weird feeling)
7pm All night drinking session in hotel bars along front in Douglas.
Saturday
Coffee, coffee, coffee, coffee, beer, beer, coach to Peel
2pm 4 mile Peel fell race (watch out where you're stepping if you're not leading!)
3pm Pub at bottom of fell (only one pint)
3-30 Journey back to Douglas with no transport. 13 miles, 13 pubs, 1 pint in each
8pm Food, All nighter along front at Douglas
Sunday
2hrs sleep, coffee, coffee, coffee,
11am Douglas Relays (Best avoid area if normal tourist)
2pm Gentle afternoon drinking session on the verandah.
7pm Douglas Casino - Serious business time, the 'Boat Race' (I actually ended up stripped naked on the dancefloor during this somehow - still a puzzle as to how).
The Boat Race is a mega serious drinking race with many, many rounds and prize money.
All nighter (again)

Hi guys  any advice for someone who wants to start running? I'm not completely unfit because I play a bit of squash and run round after the kids, but I've never done any 'proper' running.
It really appeals to me though, so I want to give it a go. There's a park across the road from me which would be ideal. How should I start (distances etc)? Do I need proper running shoes at first, or would normal trainers do? Help!"I wasn't wrong, I just wasn't right enough.":smileyhea97800072589250 -

Hi Snaggles,
I only started 3 months ago...but the best thing I did was the run 2 mins walk 2 mins thing - you feel a bit of a fool, but it stops you from going out once and killing yourself and then never going back again! Not sure about distances, I started on 2 miles but I used to be dead after that.
I buy quite good running trainers (£50 nike ones with the air bubble thing), but Rich will say it probably doesn't matter as long as they are comfy and you buy insoles. Whatever's comfy for you really. You can also have your gait measured at a proper running shop but I would save that until you find out if you like it.
Go out and try it and then come back and let us know how you got on. Once you start though - you'll never stop!

It is a little hardcore, but plenty girls see it through to the end (and on pints, god only knows how).
I seem to remember Paula was involved in one and nearly got in to hot water by entering under a silly made up name (as we all did), but at the end of the day its still run under IAAF rules so could have had consequences.

Hiya Snaggles,
I agree with all Becky has just said (but don't tell her she'll start getting an ego!) except the bit about feeling a fool.
Its a Fartlek session! And that's what mega serious athletes do.
Gently does it and, above all, listen to your body. You get the main muscle ache from a run 2 days after the run (not the next day), so running every 3 days is a good starting point and then building from there.
Good luck.Gt NW 1/2 Marathon 21/2/2010 (Target=1:22:59) (6:20/mile) 1:22:47 (6:19):j:j
