Having been caught out by bad weather dealy getting to the airport several years ago and having cover on my travel insurance to recompense I have noticed that an increasing amount over the years DON'T cover this unless you go for a more comprehensive and expensive policy.
Just renewed my daughter's annual policy and none of the lowest cost policies offered this cover so ended up with a premium approx 50% more than the lowest offered on several comparison websites.
Well hit down me with a feather. I contacted Nationwide (I have FlexPlus a/c which comes with their own travel insurance) and simply enquired to see if they could do anything. The lovely lady I spoke to said, as long as I have all the docs to prove for the flight (which I did since it's all by email), I would be recompensed in full minus APD for the replacement flight I needed to book, amounting to £110.99. I was mightily surprised and take my hat off to Nationwide with their handling of it and how quick and easy it was (think I was on the phone a mere 15 mins).
I subsequently contacted EJ who confirmed they would repay the APD of £13 for not making the flight. I'm chuffed with that and hope it helps someone who may have a similar predicament in future.0 -
Which is why I pay the monthly premium for the N`Wide flexaccount - it provides good cover. If you're new. read The FAQ and Vauban's Guide

Hi all. I'm asking on behalf of my wife.
She had a flight from Edi to Cardiff in mid March with Flybe. The flight landed more than 4 hours late. She used the template for flight comp and received an email from them to say that due to weather at Cardiff, which is outside their control, she is not eligible for flight comp. Due to work commitments, she had to spend an extra day in Cardiff at her own expense (she's self employed).
Are Flybe exempt from paying her the compensation for flight delay or is it an excuse to not pay? If so, how to proceed?
Thanks for any assistance.0 -
Hi shapala ,
Quite a few questions there, start by reading Vaubans guide. Your delay depends on if weather affected the flight concerned. Extraordinary Circumstances are a valid excuse not to pay only if they affect the flight concerned. and not a previous flight but it sounds like you might be outa luck, there are questions about could the flight be diverted? May be best tackled by a NWNF Solicitor but its not a straight forward claim IMHO
Good luckAfter reading PtL Vaubans Guide , please don't desert us, hang around and help others!

I went directly to ASL and after quite a long time, a few misunderstandings, and me putting two posts on their Facebook page (which they hate), my compensation for our family party of eleven appeared in my bank account today!! No email, nothing, but I'm not complaining. Our flight was on 21/07/17 from Palma to Aberdeen. Stick in there, hopefully it will happen for you.0

Wow.....amazing. Well done. And I'd also like to know if it was for the whole party. Congrats again :j0 -
Well done.
I hope you write a letter of complaint to the CAA highlighting ASL's refusal to comply with the law for a long period of time.If you're new. read The FAQ and Vauban's Guide

From Palma though JP, CAA won’t touch it. You’ll get we’re not the flights NEB again.

But at least it will make the CAA aware of ASL's attitude.
CAA appear to as clueless as they are toothless. The more passenegers complain, then perhaps, just perhaps they may do something about it?If you're new. read The FAQ and Vauban's Guide
