gettingready: I have to say that if with your daughter having been asked for money/fags on her way to the JCP, I can understand your concerns for her safety.

I have to ask, were her tears due to being asked for money/fags or due to the way she was spoken to by JCP staff, if it was the latter then she needs to complain. In my experience of periods of unemployment, I've found staff attitudes to vary greatly, Broad Street in Birmingham was hated, Skegness and Swaffham were pretty good. The best was in Omagh but I lived in the town so long that staff got to know me and one member of staff in particular was fantastic, before we left my husband & I talked about trying to get how good she is recognised somehow. After we moved to Norfolk, JCP staff at the JCP my husband went to was pretty good.

Regarding the charges for prescriptions & dental costs, she needs to apply for help with these through the Help with Health Costs Low Income Scheme: http://www.nhsbsa.nhs.uk/1125.aspx. As your Duaghter is over 18, the amount of help she's entitled to will be based on her income alone.

With having run her own business for 2 years, she's got a lot of skills which could be used in a wide variety of jobs. I think the suggestion of controller with the taxi co is a good one, might not be what she wants to do long term but it's easier to get a job if you're already employed.

I hope your daughter finds a job soon.
I never read that? I read that the daughter had had 3 roles plus a fourth in self employment in just a 2 year period. An average of six months per role won't prove a lot of skill in most fields.
Life is short, smile while you still have teeth :D

There is a lot of rules we all need to abide by one way or another.

But I really wonder about purpose of those particular ones as I can not see them achieving the desired effect at all.

BTW - my daughter's JSA is contribution, not income based so she is not entailed to free dentist or prescriptions. But the bums who never worked are.

Perhaps I raised her wrong. Perhaps by now, at the grand age of 23 she should have at least 3 kids (each one with a different father), have zero work history.. she would be so much better off then.

Thanks again for all the replies/thoughts. Even the nasty ones.
My parents raised me even worse because at 23 I was working full time and going for my Master's at night.

My daughter was working full time while studying (full time too) for her degree :)

    ***************

Having had a think about some of the replies to my thread.. not quite on topic but to the tune of "get anything".. sorry for being ambitious for both myself and my daughter and not wanting to settle for just anything.

I will leave it at that :)
  • The OP's daughter only signed on recently.

Why shouldn't she have some time to look for a job that fits with her skills, experience and qualifications. That's what everyone else does when they first start looking for a new job. Why should the OP's daughter be expected to make different decisions?

If it doesn't work out in a few months, then obviously you have to be more flexible.

Because the op's daughter is not willing to commute, look further afield, or put herself out in any way.

    Where does it say that?

Being in the process of going bankrupt won't help either.

That is right, you never read that. As you have not read what I have written. She was doing 3 jobs AND running her little business at the same time. Not "6 months average per role".

She was doing last year at Uni (full time) AND working (full time). Then for a year she was trying to build up her business while holding down 3 jobs on top of it. Business did not work out. Life. Not just hers, lots of start up do not work out. She ended up with debts - yes. Lots of people do.

Have a look an bankruptcy board- I am sure my daughter is the only one who's business did not work out due to economy. I am sure you will not find other posters talking about their own bankruptcies. Yes, my daughter must be the only one in the whole UK.
