We finally have our valuation and survey booked for Monday 19th August! Hopefully things get moving now! :T:T
  • Great news KaAsChEl - I am in Kent & our valuation was booked a week after our application went in, I have been told they are taking about a week to receive the report. Our valuation was done last Wednesday so me being a very impatient person I am sitting around waiting for the post, refreshing emails & constantly checking my phone haha
  • Hi, my brother and his girlfriend have applied for an Halifax Mortgage and have a Surveyor going to the property this Thursday morning so what happens now?

They are first time buyers and my house purchase was a few years ago so thought best to get up to date advice off the experts.

    Thanks in advance

Halifax seem to be very quick at the moment. We went from full application to receiving the mortgage offer through the door within a week. We applied for our mortgage on a Tuesday, paid for valuation there and then, valuation was done that Friday and Monday morning (at 8am) halifax confirmed the valuation had been received and was satisfactory. We then received the mortgage offer on the Tuesday morning. This was the most painless experience ever.
  • Wow that is quick, my brother and his girlfriend are grateful for your reply:)

I am reading everything that people wrote about Halifax and it seems that they are much faster than Santander (Abbey). We have just applied this week with Halifax through a Broker and they have only asked for a payslip. Halifax has already contacted my employer and they have already booked a survey on 7 May. How fast do you think that they will offer us a mortgage offer? Shouldn't they ask for more documents from us? The most stressful process ever...

    Hi jj03,

I'm in the same boat as you. Also impressed with Halifax's speed. They phoned to arrange the valuation within 2 hours of the application going in!

I would have thought that with the new MMR rules they must request bank statements from you, but who knows.

Halifax application completed Friday, Valuation booked & paid for, valuation/homebuyers survey carried out on Wednesday...

A lot quicker & less stressful than my recent experience with Santander!
almost two months without the survey being booked!

What you have to remember is that Halifax book the valuation ON APPLICATION. That means there could be much pain later when all the paperwork goes backwards and forwards until an offer is issued. This also means that if your application is declined then you've lost the fee.

Santander do not instruct the valuation until all the paperwork backwarding and forwarding has been done. This seems the more sensible thing to do as you don't lose a valuation fee if the application is declined.

I prefer Santanders process but undoubtedly, at the moment, you are more likely to receive a faster offer from Halifax although there shouldn't really be too much difference between the two ways of doing things.
