Halifax Mortgage Application...how long?

Hi I have just a few questions...
We completed our full application yesterday and the mortgage advisor at Halifax asked when we wanted to pay the survey fee, we had to transfer the money over to our current account and I called her today and paid the £495 for the valuation. This has been taken out of my account already, is that a good sign the application will go through ok? Is it normally done that quickly?
Does anyone know the timescales for the survey to be booked? We are in Hampshire.
Normally how long from the survey date is it until the mortgage offer is sent out?
Thanks in advance

Survey to offer was very quick for us recently, and we were about two weeks waiting for a survey recently.
I do remember speaking to the person that I dealt with about paying the fees, and I know we didnt pay the fee until we were ok in principle as it were, i.e. over the normal credit checking hurdles etc0 -
The valuation will be done when Colleys, the LBG in-house survey firm can find the time to do it. In some areas, that can be a while, as they are very, very busy.
Once the valuation is back, the offer would normally be out in a couple of days if all the other requested documentation is back and acceptable.
You appear to be having a "scheme two" and that will probably mean it takes longer to get the inspection done. Colleys appear to be doing basic mortgage report & valuation (scheme ones) quicker, at the expense of the homebuyer's reports, which take longer.
It may have been advisable to leave Colleys to do the scheme one and do your homebuyer's through another surveyor of your choice.I am a mortgage broker. They like to get your money in and paid early. This is not reflection of how the case is going.
They do it that way cos they can.
If you get the valuation booked by Colleys before 9th August you will have done well.I am a Mortgage Broker

i'm based in the South East and orginally my surveryor was booked either weeks after i put my mortgage application in with Halifax. Luckily my EA kicked up a stink and told them they that was unacceptable and to outsource if they have to. The next day i heard that Countrywide were doing it was booked for two weeks time. I wanted the homebuyers report done.0

Still no survey booked!
We paid the fee a week ago, I called the Mortgage Advisor at Halifax today and she advised that she doesnt have a date for the survey yet as there is a "delay" she will be in touch as soon as she knows anything.
Is anyone else in Hampshire or the South waiting on a survey with Halifax?
Or recently had their survey? What was the timescales?
Why cant they give you a date even though they are busy?
Is there anything I could do, to make things happen quicker?
Thanks0 -
Somebody has to physically call the selling agent for access details, then the vendor to arrange the appointment to do the inspection. The weather is great, agents, vendors, surveyors and support staff are on holiday this time of year and the growth in sales/mortgages in the last few months has been unprecedented.
In addition to that, the pool of surveyors has contracted drastically in the last five years. I don't know how many have left the industry, but as an example there were 36,000 mortgage brokers in 2008, now there are 9,000.
There has to be someone who can physically get to the location on that day.
Some areas are worse than others, but an inspection done within a month of instruction is getting towards the norm, particularly in the south east.
As it appears to be extended inspections, such as HomeBuyer's reports which seem to take longer to get appointed, I'm advising my clients to find their own surveyor for the HomeBuyer's and let the lender's surveyor do just the mortgage report & valuation, which seems to make it quicker.I am a mortgage broker. Colleys are super busy or short staffed at the moment, my survey was booked after 1 month of taking the money. Once valuation is done , offer comes out in a day or 2 .. so that part is pretty quick
