Holiday Price hikes in school holidays

After receiving a letter from my 6 year old's school ,stating that fines would be imposed for taking children out of school in term time for holidays in which married couples pay double (really promoting Camerons family values !) it has now ,more than ever got me thinking that the Holiday companies are profiteering off of the back of hard working families and that the government should do something to level the playing field about this situation ,obviously if charges were not so steep at the school holidays this would never be an issue . Basically all my wife and I work hard all year for on small wages is to give our kids a holiday once a year, it looks like the government doesn't want us to have that now . I'm interested to know peoples' views on this , is it just me ?

Its not married couples that pay double its a fine per parent. I don't know what would happen if i took my son out of school as myself and his father aren't together but his father does have parental rights so I assume he would get the fine as well (which morally I would have to pay). But I do take your point, legally I would not be liable for his fine as it would be in his name.

Anyway its not really relevant in my case as I won't be taking son out of school, I can afford a single fine let alone double.

Of course they are, they're not charity organisations. They will and should charge as much as they can get away with charging.

sorry , you are correct on that point , but my beef basically is with the goverment attacking hard working families and not multi-million pound companies .I suppose it's easier to beat the little man

I don't disagree with what you are saying, they have to make a profit but I do wonder how this will effect them (especially family holiday parks/sites) as their profit will now drop term time, which means they will have no choice but to put prices up even more in schools holiday time. However there are only so many places available and I wonder if the big drop in business during the term times will effect them.

They dont hike the price up they give discounts when supply is less . I agree but i would like you to ask how the "fine " would benefit your child more than the children whose parent dont pay any > ?? For the past 4 years we have taken out youngest DD from school before they break up . Because its the only time we can . No fine never a issue and always good attendance in school for the rest of the year . Never missed anything she cant catch up on .

Surely it's supply and demand? If people will pay it thats what it is worth. however I often seem to take holidays during school holidays (Feb half term in Paris, may half term in USA, Rome in August, Budapest at Christmas etc) and I have never thought them overly expensive compared to term time. I personally like to think of it as cheaper outside the school holidays rather than more expensive in. I wonder whether it is just the type of holidays?

Hopefully more people will travel independently. I have never and would never pay the prices some families pay tour operators for package holidays.

Do your homework, choose your destination with care, you'll soon find there's no need to pay the over-inflated package holiday prices to be able to have a great holiday in school holidays.

Last rant of the night ! and to make things worse the "fine" does not even go back to the school in question issuing it . I wonder exactly where it is going ?
