Holiday Price hikes in school holidays

.....A flight to Lanzarote on 1st Oct is £190 this year, change the dates to October half term (26th Oct) and the flights jump to £507. That is disgusting.....
No it isn't, it's about supply and demand.
Airlines like easyJet do not make money in winter so by flying all year round they are providing a much needed service.Posts are not advice and must not be relied upon.0 -
Whilst I understand its frustrating having to pay more for a holiday during school holidays, the idea that tour operators make lots of money per holiday is not really true. I used to work for a well known your operator pricing holidays and the profit per passenger was on average around £35 across the season, dependent on resort/product. There are times when less people want to go on holiday so no profit or even a loss is made per holiday and to compensate for this loss, prices have to increase when people want to go. Also, tour operators have to work with the rates given to them by hotels. If the hotel charges more at certain times of the year, the tour operator has to acknowledge this in the prices they charge the customer. I'm not sure there is much the government could do to govern school holiday prices when fluctuations in rates given to tour operators come from outside the UK (if talking about overseas holidays).0

Nor do I, unfortunately my employer insists that I only have 2 days off each weekend.

While we are at it, I want to be able to sit comfortably in a standard economy airline seat like Mr and Mrs Average. Unfortunately, I can't because I am too tall. It's not my fault that I am tall so why should I have to pay extra for more legroom?0

Thats my whole point , I am being told WHEN I have to go and I personally think my offspring can learn more in different surroundings / cultures at their tender age than in a classroom for one week. obviously as their education becomes more important at an older age prioroties change without question.
It would help if the varying counties staggered half term etc all over a month say to widen the window of opportunity0 -

Considering the OPs child s only 6 years old, I hardly think a holiday would deprive them of their education! Get real!! The OP was asking ppls opinion on holiday costs..... why should ppl who work hard have to pay more?0
