Mines with the RSPCA and I got a letter saying AXA are withdrawing. Cos of his age it is very unlikely I will get anything that doesn't ask for a percentage of costs now and quite a few less benefits.

    Such a shame.

I have literally just renewed with AXA, am I now tied into this for a year? Just thinking if they're not going to exist next year it makes the cover almost useless because if I claim on it I won't be able to get cover that includes the condition I claimed for. I'd rather move to Petplan now.

I am in exactly this position - I have only just renewed. I was surprised by the size of the increase in premium but decided to stick with it because it is a lifetime policy - my cat has turned 8 this year, so I actually phoned them to check the conditions before renewing and was assured that if I he developed a health condition this year, he would continued to be covered in subsequent years. As you say, the plan to abandon the pet insurance makes this years policy worthless as a claim will affect any future policy with another insurer. I really feel that I have been hoodwinked.

EDIT - just been to their website - it says that they are no longer offering pet insurance but existing customers can still get support till the policy expires

Also I clicked on 'existing customer - pet insurance' to e-mail them, and it just took me back to the same page. Tried under the 'claims' e-mail tab, and there is no option for pet insurance. Frankly this is not looking promising.

Just done a bit of a search, looks like it might be more than just AXA customers involved...The Postoffice, RSPCA, Caravan Club, Swift Cover, M&S and Sainsbury’s are all underwritten by AXA.

So what's going to happen to these people? I'd assume for the moment they'll also continue to take on new business but 'IF' AXA pull completely it could leave millions high and dry, unless the new underwriter opted to cover pre-existing conditions but the premiums will be huge!

Does anyone have a working e-mail address for axa?

I googled last night and found an e-mail address for their customer services, and sent an e-mail asking for clarification on what will happen at the end of this year when the existing policy (which only started yesterday) expires.

It has bounced back this morning as undeliverable.

It's obvious that no money's to be made from pet insurance, so I wonder how Pet Plan survive, and for how much longer? Would be interesting to know, Martin MSE, why pet insurance isn't profitable, whereas all other insurance is?

They'll probably still be making a profit just not as much as they would like. I also emailed the customer service yesterday and I've just had a message back saying that delivery of the email has been delayed and connection has been refused :(.

I'm going to ring the number given on their web page tomorrow (0845 much cheaper at the weekend with my phone package!). More and more tempted to switch to Argos Platinum now as I am in a position to do so (and good cashback rates!). They are coming out £1pm cheaper and superior in some ways- they will cover death until 11 unlike Axa at 8 which we are now past.
My policy was renewed last month so I don't want to be with them for a year; giving them my money when they are dumping their customers and run the risk of needing to claim therefore making changing insurers more difficult.

If you ring them tomorrow could you ask for a valid email address and post it on here please?

With the best will in the world the call centre operatives can only give us the information on their screen, and I'd want something in writing.

I must try argos pet insurance again - it gave me a quote of £58 a month last night for the same terms as it is costing me £12 a month with axa

That's for a common or garden moggie with no health problems so I am suspecting user error....

I emailed the claims dept as that was the only addy I had at the time, they've just answered me and below is their reply.

    Good afternoon,

    Thank you for your email.

We administer policies on behalf of AXA Direct and have been informed that they will continue to offer renewals to customers who already have policies with them. this is all the information we have been informed of currently however you should be contacted with an update regarding this.

    Kind regards,

    Pet claims

This is what was posted on Twitter:

Are you pulling out of Pet Insurance? What about pets insured for years that other companies won't now take on due to age? -

Pet insurance is no longer available to new customers. If you already hold AXA pet insurance you will continue to be covered

    so that's a relief for me :)
