Squatting in someone's house that is their house is obviously not on. I find it hard to care any more about some multi homer who has forced local people out of their home town so they can have two weekends a year away from London finding squatters, any more than I can someone hoarding food they dont need in a famine.
They're creating the homelessness problem, let them deal with it.0 -
Wow. Are you actually serious? So the choices are either get a job (which even if every job in the country was filled would still leave a vast number of people unemployed) or go to prison. Hmm maybe we should bring the workhouses back too??
Better workhouses than scum squatting in other people's residences quite frankly.0 -

I can't believe some attitudes shown in this thread. The milk of human kindness is really running over, isn't it?? No wonder the world is so fu@ked up, screw our fellow man as along as I'm alright Jack. Lovely.0 -

Well no, I just don't want honest hard working people screwed out of homes they have worked hard to save and buy for, only for some jobless layabouts to wander in and squat in, so give it a rest.
Squatting is wrong, end of story and I would not take kindly to anyone doing it to me.
I did not work my butt off for the last decade for some bum to think they can grab a freebie house off me.0 -

so I assume you give your spare rooms to homeless people for free?
I would rather people are honest than be on a moral high horse, without actually doing anything, or really caring about a problem.

Yes you're right, talk is cheap. I have connections with my local homeless shelter. I used to volunteer 3 days a week with them for over a year, working in the shelter and as support staff for the residents and helping them fundraise (I had to stop as I started a new job in which I now work quite long hours). I know what homelessness does, and yes, if I owned property that wasn't in use I would much rather someone vulnerable was off the street than for it to sit empty.
I would rather people are safe, off the street, and trying to make something of their lives than look the other way and not actually do anything or really care about the problem.
Its not a 'high horse' (I hate that phrase, its so dismissive and comes across as very disrespectful), its just I never seem to get used to how little people actually care, thats all.0
