I think they do take responsibility for their own situation.

You're assuming that because they criticize a wholly inadequate system that they are not.
    Methinks many do not.

I've not assumed that. They ones who expect to be spoon fed and have everything explained in minutia. Where's there initiative to take control of their own plight, find their own leads, courses, opportunities, speak with employers and follow up, all alongside their JSAG, and WP/training that is mostly provided beacuse they are long termers anyway.

what form would this responsiblity take?

How is being forced onto a program for two years you have no need of or faith in taking responsibility?!?!
To answer that you have to consider why you're forced on the program. What has been happening (or not) in jobseeking terms to make this necessary? Is there a tangible scale of improvement prior to WP? Is there a reason why do you think there's no need, ie on the very cusp of gaining employment?

you have to do all that now to claim JSA.

Sending someone on Benefit Street to the WP is a waste of money...saying that, I think most of the cast of benefit Street were in my WP office :rotfl:, some of the sights were shocking.

You're confusing all that with ticking JSA boxes.

The WP is no different to job seeking at home and attending an office once a week or once a month so they know you are not dead.

Everyone out of work 12 months or more gets sent on it.

I haven't heard of a sudden surge in gaining employment so you don't have to go on it.

well yes, I agree but what do you do if they fail to do it, stop their money?

    what about the kids?

The pont being made is, the WP is a total waste of time and money for most poeple, it's just to enable the government to say they are doing something, the whole JSA welfare bill is 5 billion yet they are spending more on the WP and the rest of it, if they want to help these people, this is clearly not the way to do it.

Lip service JSA box ticking is different to taking responsibility for your own situation.

Everyone 12 months or more should be considering what they need to change to get more success.

I meant perhaps the advisor might be convinced to defer WP for a short period if eg interview strike rates notably increased and feedback was good enough to suggest imminent success.

No they can not defer the WP at all.

The WP would have told people what they need to chance as they are the 'professionals' in recruitment and employment.

Do both. Didn't you understand the notion of 'all alongside their JSAG'
