Yes they can check that you have an account by putting your email address into their system, its how they access it, unless you have refused access but it still tells them you have an account.

Yeah I know that as they asked the girl in front for her email address (she has had the same job sheet for the last 2 sign ons and only filled in one page!)

No there is no where for a covering letter, this is what annoys me most about the system. If the company is stated I google and contact them asking to send a separate email with my covering letter and CV, I still apply via the UJM as I have to to prove job search to the JC. If there is no company stated as in some cases I just apply and hope for the best there is nothing else I can do but at least everyone else in is the same boat.

The JC tell me you do not need a cover letter to apply for jobs and other sites don't have them!! LOL I have corrected them and shown them Reed, Jobste, Totaljobs etc.

CV might lose format, I can't remember, I do find this happens on a few sites so am used to re-formatting it. You can upload more than one CV, I have a few on mine, you just choose which one you want to send depending on the job.
Normally cover letters lose format when you copy and past but uploaded a DOC file then then I tried to copy and paste and then re format but I can't as the copy and paste box wont allow it!

How do you know looking back what CV you have used for each job? Can you have 100 CV's there?

There is no application history for jobs on other sites you have to add this manually into the notes section.

I wont be doing that as I wont be giving them access but this is crap as surely any fool would have a site that DOESN'T do that! They got Monster to build a site and no one thought of this. Even sites like Reed that re direct you to a company website still have you down on the Reed site as applying for the role.

Again no history of your job search you have to manually add this.

So if you gave the JC access how do they know you have been searching? This is proof they wont and again totally crap!

Basically instead of writing it all down on a piece of paper you just type everything into the notes page. Its actually ok I find it a bit easier as I can copy and paste.

No wont be doing that either as I have said not giving them access and the notes only last 90 days

    Hope that helps

If your local job center have only just got around to asking everyone to register they sound like they are a bit behind!
No they have asked me before and told them no I don't have one. Nothing said.

  • I haven't given them access either but I have to use the site to record my job search and print out the records (I am allowed to use their computer and printer for this). I did read earlier in this thread that I can record my job search anyway I want, I didn't know that the JC told me I had to record via UJM!

The way they tell at my JC if I have been searching is I have to write down the details of a job I have found on each site including the reference number and if I don't apply I have to write down the reason why.

I am used to doing it that way now so will carry on as like I said it is a bit easier to copy and paste rather than write everything out long hand. I keep copies of the printouts I get at the JC so my records will go back further than 90 days.

I thought the JC have been banging on about how they can see your job searching and if you are using the site and they can't

I will still write all my jobs down and have every single booklet and sheet that I have filled in since the first time I signed on so can produce all of them if need be.

Deleted User says jobs on 3rd party sites show on job applications though and you say not (and I do too)

I think they can see time you have spent on the site and when you last logged in. Also when you fill in the notes they can tell when notes have been added as the date is automatic and can not be changed. This doesn't bother me as I look and record everyday but for someone who misses a day(s) this would cause them a problem.

I have applied for lots via third parties and I don't see a record of these but whether an advisor would be able to see this I don't know, its possible I suppose.

Nah 99.9% not possible as you just get directed to the other site and its the same as right clicking on the APPLY button and copy and pasting the link into the browser without a UJM account. Other sites are not linked to the UJM.

The people who set up UJM did a real good job!! :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

  • To fix the horrendous formatting you could upload it as a .pdf, not ideal I know. UJM is a terrible waste of money.

Even with an account you do not have to use it.

The idea was that claimants would be forced to use UJM. Unfortunately for IDS, a minor inconvenience called 'the law' has so far prevented it from happening.

Your experience is the typical scenario happening in all Jobcentres. Claimants are being misled in to believing they have to either provide UJM access, and if they know their rights and refuse, must provide screenshots of the account. In some cases claimants have been told 'things will be made difficult' for them if UJM access is not granted.

The UJM is being foisted upon claimants by Jobcentre advisers using manipulative and coercive language under threat of sanction, enforcing job seekers to perform actions that are not legally required of them.

I got the things will be difficult attitude but after how they've acted I think they are scum
