That's the thing, whilst you get to nominate which CV to send from what I've managed to gather an employer gets an email and does or doesn't even have to click 'viewed' in recognition - I've clicked on the Request feedback' button before now that doesn't seem to have any effect either - anything you send can basically be ignored but the beauty is can they really deny receiving once it is in your 'application history'? that's how I see it

I had 2 CV's on mine so you can chose specific CV to send if nothing else, employers won't see a profile just whichever CV you chose, interestingly if you ever change your email address on UJM it can lead to problems with JC accessing :D or should that be warning maybe, because UJM doesn't update from when you do so they at Jobcentre could be looking at a really old typeface of your account so I can see that being one route to sanction !!!!! You've probably done the right thing not having an account until now! so many other CV sites are miles ahead

I think if somebody has advertised on the Jobcentre website their not really worthy of a cover letter! bad I know! oh well it hasn't stood me in bad stead yet!

The things is most jobs will never show in application history as they are on a 3rd party site not the UJM. Once you hit apply you are not on the UJM site.

It's probably better for you in the long run to get out of the house and do some labour than to not. One of the problems long-term unemployed have is losing touch with the sort of behaviour and attitudes that are needed in the workplace, so doing anything at all, including picking up litter, or just turning up somewhere on time, can help.

Who pays transport and parking costs?

Years ago you never said to an employer 'can I do a work trial' it was laughable and used to be said what were you doing applying for a job you needed to trial for

Now it is cheap slave labour at the Gov's expense - I'm short term unemployed I've done 2 work trials now no idea if I'm coming or going I haven't learnt anything new except not to trust, personal sadness never greater

I've even lost a couple of interviews where I've been on these trials - perhaps you would be happy if my JSA got stopped to

I don't need to learn how to swear nor does someone truly learn a job outside in a couple days or weeks esp when there is the 2 years rule! the behaviour endured on this latest one where people already at the company feel under such threat it is awful not conducive!!, oh and if we are taken on wait for it we're sitting outside the existing call centre so no doubt another redundancy looms after the busy period we've been taken on for dies down right yeah, I can see it coming to long in the tooth, well when you've no rights for 2 years, remind me what incentive is there other then keeping warm as can't currently have the luxury of heating on and hot water timed, personally I think employers doing trials are mickey takers or there are some big back handers going on.. pity the real needy people don't see it

Oh that's bizzare, they have done for me
only where there is an email address in the ad, it becomes a case of non recorded though I'll then use the activity history

I don't tend to enter many 3rd party sites through UJM if I can help it

Really? Ones you have applied for on other sites? That's hard to believe as you do not apply via ujm so why would it record it? This is my point.

I applied for one and hit apply another tab opened another site where I had to log into my account there (not the ujm) to apply.

Was told at the JC today they are going to start asking everyone if they have a UJM account. Asking for peoples email address that they have signed up with to check (not sure how they do this)

Also that they CAN NOT make you give them access I overheard them say to the girl in front of me.

I now have set up an account but a few thing..............

1 - There is nowhere for a cover letter to be added
2 - CV losses ALL format when loaded
3 - No application history for jobs applied for on other sites
4 - No history of your search activity

Also for the people who have accounts. When you apply to a job direct on the site how does your CV get sent to the employer?

Is it like LinkedIn where they just see your profile or they get a copy of the CV you have loaded at the time?

I ask this as you would have maybe 2 different CV's that you may want to use so if they just see your profile they could get the wrong CV.

And you said the other day that its not mandatory to have account. guess your wrong :D

"JSA claimants are FORCED? Really? Don't be so stupid"

You don't use the word mandatory but pretty conclusive I would say.

Forced is not the same as making everyone do it because there would be no need to force anyone to do so.

And as I have said up till 9am today I had not been forced to sign up nor did anyone tell me to.

Even with an account you do not have to use it.

Maybe as gay guy knows all about the UJM he can answer this

1 - There is nowhere for a cover letter to be added
2 - CV losses ALL format when loaded
3 - No application history for jobs applied for on other sites
4 - No history of your search activity
    ?????

Yes they can check that you have an account by putting your email address into their system, its how they access it, unless you have refused access but it still tells them you have an account.

No there is no where for a covering letter, this is what annoys me most about the system. If the company is stated I google and contact them asking to send a separate email with my covering letter and CV, I still apply via the UJM as I have to to prove job search to the JC. If there is no company stated as in some cases I just apply and hope for the best there is nothing else I can do but at least everyone else in is the same boat.

CV might lose format, I can't remember, I do find this happens on a few sites so am used to re-formatting it. You can upload more than one CV, I have a few on mine, you just choose which one you want to send depending on the job.

There is no application history for jobs on other sites you have to add this manually into the notes section.

Again no history of your job search you have to manually add this.

Basically instead of writing it all down on a piece of paper you just type everything into the notes page. Its actually ok I find it a bit easier as I can copy and paste.

    Hope that helps

If your local job center have only just got around to asking everyone to register they sound like they are a bit behind!
