Common sense from MSE Towers, now thats a new thing0 -
It will be a block sent email, going out to all forum members regardless of their password.

But it hasn't gone out to everyone.
My impression (from the number of people mentioning it - remember it initially looked dodgy, with a 1970 date) is that the PM has gone out to a relatively small number (so far).0 -
I think it's strange too, why some users have been asked to change them and others haven't. I haven't been asked to.

HI all,
This may seem obvious, but please.
If you received a private message from MoneySavingExpert telling you that you need to change your password please do not announce this in the forums.
Please follow the instructions in the private message and change your password. Thank you.

Ian,
the thing that I find strange is why only some users have received the PM - and that includes ones with passwords that apparently meet the normal guidelines for 'good' passwords.
Can you clarify that, please?0 -
And, how does MSE know which members have passwords that meet guidelines for good passwords and which ones dont0

Ok, for sake of argument I've done it to something much more D1ff1cult! LOL only joking it's N0tTh@tH@rd...
Sorry, this is just a waste of a post but I'm bored and amuses me as I sit here nursing a slipped disc...

What will happen if someone doesn't change their password?
I think the implication is that you have an easy to crack password and you're basically saying "try and hack me! It'll be easy!".
I'm guessing that there is some software in play here which is assessing passwords stored in their database automatically and effectively performing a retrospective "check" on the strength...
You know a bit like when you set an account up and you get a bar showing red/amber/green and weal/medium/strong?
It's all automatic and nothing will be stored so there is no risk of details being published anywhere.
